OT: What’s this BS?

"out west" ????
You never heard of "the Trail of Tears" ? Yeah, the Cherokee just upped aand moved to Oklahoma...for the climate I guess.
And the absurdity of comparing inter-tribal warfare with the systematic elimination of the native population of North America...you know, "the only good Indian is a dead indian" policy...is one of the things that made America "great".
Indians warred on eachother too. But yeah, Andrew Jackson and teh trail of tears was a horrible crime. That tribe.. well, tribes really.. they very much tried to integrate into American society. learning the language, adopting the dress, even religion.. and still they were moved off their land to benefit salve-holders who wanted big cotton plantations and other industry of the day (logging, etc). The $20 bill should be changed at a minimum. Forget Juneteenth.. make some sort of remembrance day for the Trail of Tears. Some getting rich on oil in Oklahoma was nice.. but not enough.

Horrible crime.

Some of the other cases might be arguable.. pioneers trying to pass through Indian lands to Oregon and California getting attacked, etc. And pair that with treaty after treaty being ignored by the white man resulting in wars. Horrible stuff.. but, again, they warred on each other too.

My pet peeves is that in American media, the Christmas season ends on December 26. To me, that's when it's just warming up. What happened to the 12 days of Christmas?

yeah not sure exactly when that happened...in the 70s and 80s and even a good part of 90s, X Mas music lasted through New Years, it was part of the season. now by 8PM Christmas Nights some stations are already back to playing their regular rotation and even the next day Its hard to find xmas music on the radio. Looks like a conscious corporate decision was made across the board

You're replicating contaminated Marxist historiography
Marxists of course were the masters of systematically murdering their own population as well as that of others. Congrats on the spectacular corkscrew.

"Mohawk" means "flesh eater" (cannibal) in the native tongue of other aboriginals abused by Mohawks. Mohawks delighted in gory but drawn out tortures where they would rip hearts out alive and eat them (while drinking the blood)

Comanches practically made Apaches extinct.
Iroquois were also exquisterly barbaric - I mean they made ISIS look like beginners
Cherokees owned slaves and fought with Confederates
Not long ago they voted to exclude any black slave decendents.

A real contortion is that the pretenders who like play cool judging settlers from 400 yrs ago now allow for a massive millions strong invasion of US by descendents of Spanish conquistadors.

This is VERY gory

Hell, a few stores already had Christmas stuff out back in early October! And here in NYC WLTW more than a week ago went to All Christmas Music, All The Time.

One of our big clients is a retail chain in Canada: we program into our systems special holiday hours for them (i.e., Regatta Day in PEI in August). Their Thanksgiving is in October, but Black Friday is always on their list.

Not really, this is actually an amusing topic to discuss.

Ah, hell, you don't need that. Just put Alice's Restaurant on rotation every 4th song!

What's a Bamberger? Does that come with Coke or Pepsi?
They became Macy's , Bambergers was my very first credit card back in the 1970's. My Grandmother took me to the one in Newark when I was in grade school. It was one of the big 3 in Newark: Bamberger's, Kresge's and Hahnes.

Probably just an ad/marketing model. Start earlier, people get sick of it earlier, pull it earlier.

It's really not complicated. Christmas starts when Thanksgiving is over. Why else would Santa be at the end of every Thanksgiving parade?
All this trouble started when Thanksgiving started to self identify as Christmas.

That was sarcasm. I had a Bamberger's card as well.

I remember when Short Hills Mall was all outdoors.
Highlights were Abercrombie & Fitch when they still sold tents, decoys and waders.
FAO Schwartz toy store, Brentano’s Stationary and Bonwit Teller

As a little kid it was a really BIG deal to go there.

Santa pic. I remember they gave out the little paratrooper toy.

Does anyone remember the miniature train set up upstairs at Bamberger's in Newark at Christmas? It was huge (at least it seemed like it was). The train would go through a town and there was also a circus that it traveled around.
At the circus portion there was a figure of a guy sitting in an outhouse behind the main tent. I thought that was the funniest thing!!!!
After that my mom and I would jump on the #11 bus to head back to Elizabeth.

Much prefer outdoor malls.

Starting Christmas celebrations before Thanksgiving has always been one of three holiday season pet peeves of mine. Even though I celebrate Christmas, not everyone does, and I think having an annual holiday where EVERYONE has an opportunity to gather with their families is an important American tradition. I understand the need to get retail going early, but other Christmas events shouldn’t start until after Thanksgiving, and that holiday should be given its proper due. Even more recent traditions like “Friendsgiving” that focus on people coming together provide important touch points in our lives.

My other two pet peeves are having Christmas music and other holiday-related activities suddenly stop on the night of December 25th (as others shave pointed out). The other is having people work on Thanksgiving night so that stores can have their “doorbuster” sales. Many retailers have stopped the practice this year, supposedly as a service to their employees and their families, but we all know the real reason is that they can’t get anyone to work!

Fair.👍

I should have been more specific: invoking the "MSM" in this discussion is stupid and the rush to Christmas is nothing new as a previous poster stated. It has been that way for almost 30 years. It's about retailers trying to get a jump and make some money. Capitalism at its finest and I have no issue with that.
For some businesses, they make a good percentage of their yearly profit in the span of the one month before

So it makes sense to go all in for Christmas

all true but nothing to do with the birth of Thanksgiving and what it was about. That was 250+ years afterwards.

I think that it's pretty funny that they don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here but they have Black Friday sales!!!
Or as I saw last week in Ho Chi Minh City a sign for a "Black Fire Day Sale".

You sure it didn't read "Brack Fire Day Sale"? LOL

I can remember Christmas shopping at age 17 ,at Bambergers,NWK. Snow coming down outside.Music playing inside,Great atmosphere.Still have good memories.Hard to believe that was 80 Christmases ago.Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to ALL

I remember Bambergers.

And that mythical country that never did anything wrong will never be found. But some folks just think it's cool to rip the freest most successful country in history. Well at least as designed.

Ask your Marxist friend about 100M dead folks in the last 100 years.

That's how I approach it. Can't let the misinfomation go unchallenged.

How shitty is one's life that they have to hate Thanksgiving. SMH.
Wanted to ask the poster to out their ancestry so we could see how perfectly squeaky clean their history was.
Seriously. Its a holiday that isn't about religion, or war, or birthdays of people who are now "villains", but one about family, and sharing meals with the needy, and giving thanks. So let's find a way to trash it.

Bambergers was a very important part of social amenities ,if you grew up in the ""NEIGHB'' If your fly was unzipped ,you would be told "Bambergers is open"

Or can you just go to a store and buy it. that way you know you have it and don't need to worry about delivery dates.
I used to be like this. Until one early December shopping day about 8 years ago and the stores had nothing I wanted or needed. Was standing in Dick's and asked my wife for our kids Christmas list. Pulled up the Amazon app and ordered everything (some items much cheaper than the similar items in the stores). Everything was delivered within 2 days. In fact, I am already done XMAS shopping and even have gift wrapped already.

I still go out to the stores to be festive, but love to laugh at the people standing in long lines or crying because everything is out of stock.
