OT: What’s this BS?

yeah not sure exactly when that happened...in the 70s and 80s and even a good part of 90s, X Mas music lasted through New Years, it was part of the season.

I had completely forgotten about that: you're right, it used to go up to NYE. Obviously not 24/7, but Xmas music was sprinkled into the regular playlist.

Even though I celebrate Christmas, not everyone does, and I think having an annual holiday where EVERYONE has an opportunity to gather with their families is an important American tradition.

Well said!

I miss Sears. Was just thinking of them the other day. You could buy a mattress, school clothes, a ratchet set and a rifle in the same store.

Yep. When I grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms north of Detriot, the Sear was THE store to go to at Christmas time. And they had everything, all that you mention above and more. And their toy section was what little boys dreamed of. Along with their Christmas Catalog.

It feels almost like Thanksgiving lovers everywhere need to wage a "War on Christmas." 🥴
I prefer to wage war on cows on Christmas. I've been hosting it for my family every year for a long time now, making 2-3 whole beef Wellington's for dinner. I figure that counts as a war on cows.

Also a war on my circulatory and digestive systems. Not sure I want to "win" those wars. If I didn't hate it, along with several family members, I'd switch to some nice healthy fish instead.

Turkey, however, I can do entirely without. No war on them from me.

I'm with you, but I orchestrate a multi-theater campaign that goes after other animals, too. Sometimes big, angry elk, sometimes pesky game birds, and sometimes just the simple farm-raised pig that found itself in the wrong place, wrong time.

Xmas is worth engaging multiple adversaries over ; )

Totally agree.

Roadkill is also traditional Christmas fare. Has to be purposeful though. It doesn't count if it's an accident.

Oh yeah, The Sears Wishbook.
