OT: What are you all drinking tonight

I had a couple Manhattans at Botto's in Swedesboro tonight. They have a house bourbon and use Antica for the vermouth. Ends up being the best Manhattan I can find in a restaurant.

A friend just gave me a bottle of Bunnahabhain (TOITEACH A DHA’), Islay single malt scotch. It was peaty… not too bad. Question is how the heck do you pronounce it?

Downed two pints of Belhaven Best Friday afternoon at Teuchters pub, a local hangout in Edinburgh. Heading upcountry today to Milngavie to begin hiking the West Highland Way on Sunday. More regional pints to come as well as a wee dram or three....

For you scotch drinkers, what whisky should I be sampling in the Highlands?

Since Black Eyed Susans are among the least manly cocktails ever devised, I'm instead going to be making Preakness cocktails for the Preakness today. Almost verbatim to a Manhattan but with a little Benedictine in there. To truly make it a Baltimore staple, use Sagamore for the rye.

How old is it? I have a bottle of the 12 which is almost empty, gonna have to replace that soon. By the way, the correct pronunciation is: BOO-nə-HAV-in.

So I enjoyed a glass of this tonight, Abhainn Dearg 10yo. My colleague at my last job picked it up for me 2 years ago when he was vacationing in Scotland.

Wow, no entries for almost a month! I'm proud of you guys for going on the wagon!!!

As for me, while I was prepping Corey's 19th birthday dinner (rib roast, mashed potatoes, onions, portabello caps, chocolate cake by the missus), I was enjoying this:

Finishing what’s left of a bottle I had of Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask. It’s good if you prefer the rum influence but I prefer the 12 year old double wood.

Oktoberfest beers are out! Only a month away.
Had a few Erdinger Oktoberfest this weekend. Very different than all other German Oktoberfest biers. This a wheat based beer. Very good!

Having some Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest's tonight. I wanted to try something different then the Sam Adams version. I think I like the Sierra version better tbh. I also picked up Founder Ultimate Oktoberfest that I have yet to try.

I had a few of those awesome, spectacularly rated, enjoyed and adored IPAs (wink @WhiteBus ) plus a Founders Headless Gourdsman which checked in at 13+% while sitting in front of an awesome fire pit tonight.

Having some Troegs Master of Pumpkins. Not too sweet like some pumpkins tend to be.

So first drink I've had since last week's tailgate. Unfortunately I caught a cold last weekend that Corey brought home from Rutgers Newark that prior Thursday, so haven't been in the mood until tonight.

Sláinte!

Going with a nice 18 year old tonight. Had a few of the Glenmorangie selections this one does not disappoint. The price isn't to crazy for a 18 year old.

Neighborhood Christmas party tonight. Enjoying an Elijah Craig Private Barrel, Barrel Proof 61.85% abv. Neat as always.

My son Tyler rolled in around 6PM from Virginia: he had an open bottle from his wine tasting a couple of days ago. It's:

2022
Gran Passione
Rosso

It's really good. He said they just got it in the wine shop and have already sold 16 bottles of it.

Character, taste, aromas

St.Bernardus Christmas Ale is an intensely dark beer with a full, yet slightly fruity flavour, overflowing with the tastes of winter and zesty seasonal aromas. Aniseed notes are complemented by hints of creamy caramel and fire-roasted chestnuts. This zestiness shows no signes of abating, pushing through to a magnificent finish of dried fruits and chocolate. Just like all of our beers, this brew bears the imprint of the unique St.Bernardus yeast (dating back to 1946), that gives it its own special complexity. Simply stated, St.Bernardus Christmas Ale is the perfect degustation beer to warm your heart and bring a glow to your loved ones on a cold winter night.
