When asked why this championship meant so much, since he had won 2 with Miami, James responded:
"I'm HOME".

We need that emotion, that degree of commitment....just as James said " Cleveland this is for you".
We need New Jersey recruits to say "Rutgers, this is for you....we're HOME"!

New Jersey basketball players are afraid to take on that type of responsibility.

He cared so much about being home he left years ago!

Hope everyone on our team STAYS home.

I was thinking of this. In a way Schiano (due respect to those who argue "if he could only coach") was our LeBron-but he never came "home".

In football real hard to be a megastar unless those around you are top notch. For instance Rice (I thought Derrick Fenner at UNC was as good if not better vthan Rice but was a total f*ckup as a person and student-and it cost him his career) was a great player but that whole TEAM was great in 2006ish. For instance in 2006 I was elated and proud to be at Navy where RU just dismantled Navy on both sides of the ball and bear a solid Navy team (whom I believe had a bowl bid before we did) 31-0.

In basketball it will happen in time but I don't think Pikell will ever land us a 5-star center. More likely I think Pikell will be able to recruit many 3-star and an occasional 4-star player who wil learn his system and be soild team players (thus improving the basketball team).

I think we had a mini Lebron in James Bailey. Too bad both he was a frosh/ on the Final 4 team and there were 2-3 other All time teams in the Final 4 that year...

Thanks for a well polite and reasoned response.

I'm hoping that someone will feel as passionate about RUTGERS / NEW JERSEY as Lebron does about Cleveland. I'm also hoping that a few players (the oft talked about "what if we all played for Rutgers") ....actually happens in the next few years- landing us several 4 - 5 stars: and leads us to a B1G Championship / NC.

It's about time (the CUBS....are tearing it up and are after the WS after 108 years / they pale in comparison to Rutgers long strange trip since 1869!

GO SCARLET!!

I find threads like these hilarious since Lebron also referred to his Miami stint as his version of going to college.

A couple of things before my main comment...

1) Thanks, MO for the comment. I appreciate the "likes" as I have given my opinion in the past (fairly nicely) only to be "banned".

2) I caught the end of the last two games (after taking naps). It was nice to see the skill and passion of Ervin/ (though I hope he not the future husband/boyfriend of a Kardashian because that family, hate to say it, is in a way just as bad an outcome of the Simpson case Daddy covered up). Also it was my first 2 NBA games in years because they seem boring compared to RU in the 80s and early 90s. Ditto attending UNC.

3) Also thrilled and stunned to see a defensive play (what a block by James!) help win the game. I thought they didn't play defense on the NBA except in paternity suits. Great to see his emotion in the end.

That said Mo not so sure Id call LeBron a loyal son. He knowingly, as an "adult" not only left Cleveland during 4 prime years of his career "for better shores"-and "money"-and worse yet made a terrible spectacle of it.

I really think some of those tears were those of relief-sans the championship to many LeBron's legacy was that of snubbing the city of Cleveland-and flaunting it.

Thinking a bit, this is perhaps why Schiano didn't come back to Rutgers. A chunk of the fan population already saw him as disloyal. Another portion believes he is a poor game day coach, yada. He already elevated RU football from the depths (though arguably Rutgers was never as good after Schianos players graduated). With entrance to the B1G unless Schiano won big, bringing him back would likely be considered a mistake-and not moving forward. It (I'm surehis wife Chrissy wasn't so thrilled but she now has an additional $15 million and can live/vacation in the Florida house) was better for his career that he take a top assistant post.

I like those comments that infer those 4?+ star recRUits who "take a chance" on RU-and actively recruit others-are like mini LeBrons for RU!
