Carter told The Dispatch in an interview last week that athletics has been self-sustaining for more than a decade and that the university does not want to use taxpayer dollars or tuition dollars to support all of the teams in the future.

They are so quick to take credit for their accomplishments and tweet about "their" athletes making the Olympics or winning medals.

But at the same time actively try to distance themselves any sort of assistance with the training?

OSU literally just said they don't want to pay for it. And don't want to make Ohio taxpayers pay for it. How many Ohio residents are cheering were rooting for Ohio athletes in Paris?

OSU has a $10.4B budget but guess a couple million towards Olympic sports don't fit into their budget?

Because it does not bring money or fans in. Also the percent of athletes that bring recognition to the university is extremely low compared to the number of athletes involved.

Ohio State spends a lot more than a couple million on Olympic sports. Ohio State is by far the biggest spending college sports program in the country, at least among public universities. Stanford, like Ohio State, offers 30-something varsity sports and likely spends a similar amount to Ohio State on its athletics program.

Of the $275 million Ohio State spent on athletics last year, $72 million went to football, $15 million went to men's basketball, and $7 million was for women's basketball.

That means Ohio State spent $181 million on Olympic sports.

The Ohio State athletics department turned a profit in the past but will make losses in the future if they continue to run a huge, expensive sports department.

Wrestling is toast. Title IX decimated it by almost half (146 to 77). Now after this round you might have trouble fielding a 33 man NCAA tournament.

OSU Athletic Department spent only 28% of their department budget on Football?
Despite nearly $65m in just Football ticket sales revenue they only spent an additional $7m between donations, parking, confessions, advertising and media rights?
Interesting.

Would be further interested in the source for that $77m spent on football.

Regardless, a potential $180m in “other sport” funding would be less than 2% of the OSU budget of approx $10.4B.
Wonder if other University expenditures are held to the same standard as Olympic sports in generating money or fans.

Here are Ohio State's detailed athletic department financials.

I have the solution.. half the football team says they are women. heck.. might help them get a job after school too! or get teh "right" prison sentence if they end up going that way.

Olympics are more watered down than ever and have lost their meaning. I don't watch. Break dancing?

The Olympic sports are basically club sports for the most part. I enjoy a few of the women's sports but this is coming to a head fast.

Do you classify baseball, soccer, hockey and lacrosse as "Olympic sports"?

Most people don't care about olympic sports unless it's an olympic year. Or if the US isn't winning gold medals.
The vast majority of Americans don’t even care about Olympic sports when the Olympics are happening.

Their TV ratings translate to about 7-8% of the country watching at the pinnacle for most of these sports.
