a co-worker who is a Lehigh fan texted me that it is a shame we don't support the program since the RAC was 1/2 empty. I thought I saw an earlier post(s) saying we were top 10 in wrestling attendance. Does anyone know the details? Where do we stand on a national level for attendance?

FWIW I thought it was a very good turnout last night (short notice/not scheduled and head-to-head with big HS matches). Lehigh coach also quoted as saying the pro-RU crowd was a big factor.

Tell your co-worker to take that L and shove it up his a$$. RU was #6 I believe in attendance last year. It was a loud crowd but smaller around 1,900 because the match wasn't announced until like 2 weeks ago and it was the biggest NJ high school wrestling day of the year.

Funny, then Lehigh must be a graveyard you should tell your friend he better worry about their attendance last year we ranked 6th with 2700 fans and are just starting to get going. They averaged 1400 with a rich tradition and history. Your co-worker is an idiot. Hell even the B1G network announcers acknowledge what a great job us fans do in attending.

For the 2014/15 season we averaged twice what Lehigh did in attendance. My guess is that we top them again this year. Your co-worker does not know what he is talking about.

typical of many who love to put RU down at every opportunity--sadly there are some on this board

Maybe it was where I was sitting (right behind Lehigh bench), but there were plenty of Lehigh fans around me - and loud

One behind me didn't stfu the entire time

That said - next time lets make sure the RAC is sold out.. Rather than bitching about the teams that underperform, let's support those that are solid..

I don't think non wrestling fans appreciate how big of a win this was.. I read somewhere that we have only beaten Lehigh 3 times in like 40 odd tries.. This was like knocking off West Virginia in football..

2,500+ with less than a week's notice on a Saturday night? What did Lehigh average in attendance last year? 1400? You need to give your snooty-ass Lehigh friend a good ol' "Jersey Bitch Slap" the next time you see him.

Tell him he's welcomed to come back to his home state B1G program anytime to watch us. $$$$

Anything over 1500 is very good for college wrestling comparing to what others get so tell your friend from Lehigh he doesn't what he is talking about

It's amazing how butthurt some people get... Doesn't sound like the guy was being a jerk, and it's true that wrestling should have more support, yet everyone gets super defensive immediately

I can't wait for the B1G tourney in two weeks. I'll be rooting for you guys anytime you aren't wrestling a PSU guy...especially when wrestling a Hawkeye.

Did anyone here are the match RU played against Purdue at Purdue? There couldn't have been more than 100 spectators, a large number of which were RU fans.

The BTN commentators made a statement about.
1. How well Rutgers wrestling fans traveled and
2. How well Rutgers wrestling was doing in overall attendance & packing the RAC.

Guys, you gotta stop, and actually understand what you are talking about before you comment. Last year we had Penn State at home, that boosted our attendance. This year Lehigh had Penn State at home and drew almost 6k. If you look at the attendance #s from last year, whoever had Penn State and Iowa home dual meets their attendance was bolstered significantly. Also, before you start bashing Lehigh, take a look at our all time record against them, I believe it is 2-40. Also, take a look at how many national champs and All- Americans they have produced compared to us. Finally, they are ranked ahead of us this year.

2014/15 Avg Total High Rival

1 Iowa 8,358 55,390 11,882 Iowa St

True - they have a rich tradition, and long list of champs and all-americans, and nice, dedicated wrestling facilities....

all we have is a current, 2-match win streak against them.

Actually, in 13/14 we lost to them 27-9, which was the last scheduled dual meet. In 12/13 we beat them 17-16 to snap a 38 meet losing streak. And we though West Virgina owned us in football. LOL!!

What you say is all true, but the initial post was about a Lehigh guy saying "its a shame we don't support our program." That's offensive by itself, and simply not true. We are just getting going, and have great support. Sounds like he is living in the past. Lehigh has a wonderful tradition, and we will still outdraw them this year. So who is not supporting? If we had their history, our matches would sell out the RAC. Our attendance is wonderful for where we are, if anything, the fans outperform the team.

Bottom line is its sour grapes. Rutgers is the top team in the east. 2 in a row against Lehigh, and we beat Cornell this year. You better believe Lehigh fans do not like the direction this is headed in. By jumping from EIWA to Big Ten, Rutgers has a great opportunity to become the true eastern power, and seems to be taking that opportunity.
