1 thru 9 we can hit and play defense with ANYONE in the country….quite an accomplishment for us!
The reality is we have only one path to victory against a quality opponent….Kollar as far as he can go to Stanovich, whom despite his outing yesterday has good stuff.
French could give you 4 or 5 innings on his good day.
Other than Stanovich, our bill pen will get lit up against any solid hitting team.
Still had a great year and throw one hell of a line up at you.
FYI
Nothing but quality opponents the rest of the way

Our starting pitching has been horrible for several weeks now, including Kollar, and the bullpen hasn’t been much better. Even Stanavich has been pedestrian lately. We just don’t have the pitching to make an NCAA run.

But the year has been fun, and yeah, our lineup is a murderer’s row. We will see how far our bats can take us…

I think as the quality of the opponent improves the old adage that good pitching tops good hitting is more prevalent. The issue this weekend is that Michigan is not supposed to be that good and needed wins just to make the conference tournament

I have watched a decent amount of the two games this weekend and while we get some good hacks and have some gaudy offensive numbers it’s not easy to watch when the other team is batting.

Kollar can produce bad swings from good hitters, we can absolutely beat anyone if he pitches his best.
At worst you should all recognize and applaud the lineup we throw out there, it can beat anybody, its big time.

All true, but it is nonetheless a big disappointment to see those strong bats struggle in clutch situations against very pedestrian pitching from UM. I realize the blind squirrel finds an acorn but to see 5 consecutive goose eggs after leading 7-2 is a head scratcher. They definitely played tight down the stretch.

It'll be interesting to see whether those bats can come alive again and make noise in the conference tournament and ,perhaps, beyond. It won't be their pitching.

Big 10 pitching, like their quarterbacks, is one cut below the rest of the major conferences.

I see quality swings with 2 strikes, I see uncomfortable swings with 2 strikes.
I see good swings in hitters counts, I see uncomfortable swings in hitters counts.
I see easy takes and bad takes, I see late on the fastball I see right on it.
I see staying back on the breaking ball, I see the need for the hitter to over commit.
Overall our pitching does NOT produce nearly enough uncomfortable swings and at Bats.
I’ve seen Stargell and Parker strike out 6 consecutive times without fouling a ball off against Steve Carlton.
Good pitching can do that

I don’t care if we score 7 in the first inning and throw goose eggs up the rest of the way….it’s still 7
If you pitch and play defense you win that game
How about being up 13-2 after 3 and losing by 10+ like Indiana did the other night? In a perfect world, you are absolutely correct but this is Big 10 baseball where no lead is safe. Pitching and defense are a premium that is sorely lacking. That is why 5 consecutive goose eggs, with ample scoring opportunities thrown in, is so unnerving. 7-2 lead sounds like a lot but it isn’t much. Just look at how many big leads RU overcame to win during its long winning streak. You are absolutely correct. Good pitching trumps everything.

Pitching staff over achieved until now.

Last night I saw something I never saw before in almost 60 years of watching baseball. Relief pitcher comes in with the bases loaded and throws three wild pitches for three runs.

I like our baseball team this year and don't want to go back to the teams we've seen over the last several years.

Coach has done a great job in a short period of time in filling our team needs!
I feel our pitching will get better.

The ONlY way it gets better is to recruit much better pitchers. That is easier said than done.

Agreed, we need to upgrade our pitching.
We did win 40+ games this year and hope Coach can use this to recruit more quality pitchers.

We did see a huge improvement in hitting (especially power numbers) and fielding.

Considering we don't have a baseball stadium I believe he has done an unbelievable job in moving Rutgers to the top of the Big Ten standings.

Can’t get any worse

When Michigan got within a touchdown I got a little worried. If we only had several stud starters we could compete with any program. We lost because of pitching the past two series against Maryland and Michigan. Can we win the B1G tourney not sure but it won’t be the failure to score runs.

How does Kollar's stuff compare with Bob Brownlie: i.e. fast ball (mph?). curve, changing speeds.

Also, seems like we need to recruit (portal?) more pitchers like Kollar.

GO RU....BEAT INDY!

Not even close. Brownlie was a first round draft choice.

Florence pitched great in the Big Ten tournament and getting Fitzpatrick back really helps too

I hope that Kollar can start today and give us a few innings. Two days rest and I think he only pitched about 40-45 pitches on Thursday. Do you think he can give us a couple of innings, Zap? Or 78?

As Jim Kaat used to say before a seventh game playoff situation, tonight's pitcher is Johnny Wholestaff
