Our offensive line this year is actually one of our higher "ranked" in history

Obviously, the offensive line is all about communication and becoming a unit and also getting the experience of what is it to go against NFL quality D-Lineman in the BIG10.

But from just purely a "recruiting ranking" perspective this is one of the highest ranked offensive lines I think we have ever put together.

I think our offensive line will actually be pretty darn good this year. I am just worried about them meshing in time for those early crucial games such as Washington State and Penn State.

We all know star rankings aren't everything, but according to those rankings this has to be one of our better ranked lines we have put together....

1. Chris Mueller (An Army All American and a 4 star recruit)
2. J J Denman (4 star recruit)
3. Derrick Nelson (High 3 star recruit)
4. Keith Lumpkin (4 star recruit)
5. Dorian Miller (4 star recruit)

(And yes I know that I didn't put the OL in proper position order. I figured people are still in flux no it would be a guess anyway where I put people)

Great football centric post/observation. Definitely the most talented starting OL we have ever had. Now let's see if they become the best on the field. Great test for the star system.

I have the feeling with all that talent the most impressive guy may turn or to be Tariq Cole. I feel very good about the line.

Im just worried about our quickness on the o-line. A few of the guys projected to play have had a hard time in run blocking because of their slower first step. If you watch the spring game, you can see it also - and thats against our second/third dline.

We will be fine in pass protection, but need to get better at run blocking. Thats what coach Browning is supposed to specialize in, so this is a big year for him. Hope the old ball coach can come through.

I think the line will be ok, early season there might be some issues. The new starters have been in the program for several years so it should not be a huge dropoff. Regarding the rankings ...OL is probably one of the toughest positions to project. RU's best OL in the Rice/Leonard era wasn't overly touted according to stars, etc..but they developed into a really good OL.

Agree that rankings aren't everything, but to add a little more info, ESPN recruiting ranked them all pretty high at their respective positions:

Mueller - #24 OT in 2012 class
Denman - #18 OT in 2012
Nelson - #88 OT in 2012
Lumpkin - #53 OT in 2011
Miller - #24 OG in 2013

What recruiting service did you use to get their star rankings?

Can't really compare the competition from 05 -07 with the likes of who we play now. Even the 06Louisville and WVU teams would be destroyed by tOSH and. MSU.

Come on now. The 2006 Louisville team went 12-1 and finished at #5 in the country, only loss to RU which was ranked #12. They blew out Miami 31-7 and beat a very very good WVU team and won the Orange Bowl. Ohio State and Mich State would not have destroyed either them or WVU. Beaten them in a close game? Maybe.

Those Louisville and WVU teams were pretty good. It's not a foregone conclusion that Ohio State or MSU blows them out.

o_O Here we go again. Names on the front of the jersey don't win games. It's the names on the back that make the difference. Support your position with facts to back it up.

OSU would run Elliot all over the poor Louisville D and Cook would have tourched them. If you think the RU defense had Brohm talking to himself MSU's and probably OSU's DLs would have him cowering in a corner. WVU would probably play them closer but that still wouldn't be a game in doubt.

Now if you're comparing 2006 OSU that played Florida for the NC with Louisville in 2006, I think Louisville would beat OSU employing the same type gameplan Florida did. Would give the edge to WVU too.

Those UL and WVU teams in those years were very good. Some of those WVU teams that Rodriguez had were excellent and would have given anyone a tough game. I believe it was after the 2007 season when they went to the Sugar Bowl...I think... and beat a good Georgia team. The difference is now that RU is playing a very quality opponent every week in conference...that's a big difference.

The offensive line will be good in November

The question is will it be good in September....or still a work in progress

Those WVU teams were not only beating the Georgias of the world but the Oklahomas of the world. Try again.

Any chance a true freshman plays. We are not deep at Oline and will get even thinner next year when we lose Lumpkin. Which is why we need Pridgeon in this year's class
