Our path to the NCAA tournament?

Our chances went from .1% to 1%. I have seen 3 standard deviation events occur.

According to kenpom we are not favored in a single b1G game.

Well, I’d set NCAA odds at 40-1 as of today. That said, why not ask the question.

We have three tough ones coming up (MSU, UW, SHU). Win two and the dream becomes a conversation. Win none and the dream is squelched.

NCAA is very tough nowadays

We would need 20 wins including a close to 500 conference record and 2 in the B10 tourney.

NIT may be a decent chance if we can pull some upsets and finish with 17-18 wins.

they key to either tourney is a few wins over top 25 teams.

Maybe Miami ends up in the top 25 so it will be a good road win. SHU should be a good test.

Ncaa or bust for me.

Break it down for me @bac2therac break it down brotha.

I waited 35 years for this.

35 years?????

Didn't we make the tourney in 1992 (27 years ago)?

and.... with Rutgers luck....
when we finally make the tourney we will be part of the 1st 4 games on the Tuesday / Wednesday and not even named in most bracket contests.

We are the team that won in Miami
We are the team that got crushed in the 2nd half vs. SHU
We are the team that blew out FDU and Drexel
We are the team that were only up one possession late in the game vs. Boston at home
We are a team capable of beating anyone on our schedule
We are still a team capable of losing to Stony Brook or Hartford

The enthusiasm for this team is at the same level it was at after beating SHU last year.

Nothing wrong with some enthusiasm!

The formula... finish 8-2, 9-1 non conference record, with road wins @Miami, @Fordham, and possibly @Seton Hall and win 7-9 home wins and 2-4 road wins in the B1G will get us in. B1G is up this year which will get us more bids this year 5-3 vs BE and 7-7 vs ACC helps, even Illinois our worst team is 2-5 with close losses to ND, Gonzaga, GT, Iowa St., and Xavier, will have a great SOS.

If we finish with a winning record for the first time since 2005-2006, I'll be a happy camper.

Anything else is a pipe dream this season.

Enjoy the build.

Goal should also be to move up to 12th or 13th in conference. Basically, beat Illinois and do better than they do against other teams.

No threads on this yet! Break it down SOS and RPI guys.

First thing is first ....split the next two, best the hall on the road, and take care of business in the other three out of confrence games

1-1 and 10-2...with toad wins against at Miami/Seton Hall/and Wisconsin ...and losses against St. John’s (could be heading for a 12-0 start) and Michigan state...is a resume that allows you to strongly think NCAA if you can find 10-8 the rest of the way and go to Chicago, 11-9 and 20-10 overall ...

There is the first step to have a prayer

I don't understand stand the negativity, Coach Pike has won 15-- 2 straight years with basically 5 players deep over 20 minutes 2016-17(Nigel, Corey, M. Williams, D. Freeman, CJ Gettys) -- Issa(18 mpg), SA(13 mpg) and Laurent(13 mpg) avg 3 pts. a game and EO 12 mpg and 2.4 ppg and 6 deep-- over 20 minutes in 17-18(Corey, Geo, Freeman, M.Will, Issa, EO), 3 at 12-13 mpg and no one over 3 pts a game. They had a lot of one dimensional players.

This team goes a legit 8 deep, have several multidimensional players and no one thinks they will win more this year? Better passing, better shooting, better defense, better length, height, chemistry, IQ, list goes on. The team reminds me of a mixture of FSU and Purdue teams this year, they have a high ceiling and right now maybe Michigan is the only game I'd rate as a sure loss in the B1G and we have them at home. I'm not write us off dancing this year with this team.

RU will have to beat better teams like Miami night in and night out to make the dance. Would be highly unlikely....for starters. RU probably will have to finish 9-1 regular season and then 10-10 Big 10 to even be in consideration and will have to have some really good wins better than Miami and SHU. This thread is way too premature but I believe last year there was one too

Disagree - with our schedule, rpi should be very high if we go something like 18-12/9-11 (that assumes a road win at SHU, by the way, as we already have 1 OOC loss) in the regular season and then we'd likely need 1-2 wins in the tourney, as long as our losses in the B1G aren't bad ones and we have some good wins, too.

But I put the odds on us getting to 18-12 at <5%, although I was probably at <1% before last night. I don't think last night was a fluke, but with such a young team, I also don't think we'll sustain that level of play. Gonna be fun to watch, though!

You nailed it with this post. Our teams stunk last two years and Pike did pretty well with it. Now we have talent depth height length better shooting passing IQ

People are too dogmatic with their thought process of something like this year out of the basement. Next year over 500. Next year NIT. Next year NCAA. Like the only possible scenario is this linear step by step incremental improvement.

Next year we dance and let's not rule anything out yet for this season and see how it plays out. We started great offensively this season and poor defensively and then those two switched. If we can get both going at the same time we are going to beat a lot of teams but the key word is if.

Next year we dance

the issue is quality non conference wins..Miami was a good win but if they end up not being a NCAA bubble team themselves than that win isnt as good. Ditto for SHU, if they end up being ordinary that will leave RU with no real quality non conference wins..it certainly hurt Nebraska last year. RU can do its damage in the Big 10 schedule and its helped by the fact that this year the Big 10 profile is already way better than last year due to a better show in n on conference games.

Until RU beats MSU and SHU given a Wisconsin loss is 10-2 at the start of the new year, its simply fantasy land to talk about this

It is nice to be optimistic but guys that are way ahead of themselves I think are often newbies to RU basketball. I have been a follower for 47 years and there are many others of at least 30 years. We are the ones who have suffered many years over RU B-Ball. We need to take one game at a time not looking at the entire season after one very good win. Many jump off the bandwagon and criticize RU over every loss. We need supporters who live and die RU B-Ball as fans like some of us have been for years. The loyal followers of RU B-Ball are the ones who should be rewarded when RU finally makes the NCAA. Please don't get ahead of yourselves. It is coming but we really need a miracle or close to one to make it this season. Piscataway Mike is realistic. We need to enjoy the ride. We have a wonderful staff and hard working players. Remember we are still building. There will be highs & lows. We will not win every game. The fans need to be 100 % behind the team after every game, win or lose.

Agreed. That's why I'll be rooting for Miami and SHU (holding my nose) to win out from here on, just on the off chance we get close to the bubble...

Yikes. Let's pump the brakes here. It was a great win, but it was one win.

Agreed 10,000 percent. Miami is a nice team with a good coach, but come on, people. Why is it always one good win or one bad loss that sends people off and running? Can we see a trend please? After the St. John's loss, some non-basketball people were acting as if Pike was barely above Ash. Now we beat Miami and we're destined to be dancing?

Let's just enjoy the season as it plays out. Just thinking we have to chance to win almost every game is enough for me these days.

RU is a 10 point home underdog to Michigan State.....i know we host Maryland and Ohio State in early January....the leagues OOC play to start the season makes this year's 20 B1G games more valuable than St Johns or Seton Hall.

The only path to discussing NCAAS is with a win Friday night and a single digit defeat at Wisconsin. If that happens, then the door is open for a legitimate springboard for things to happen at worse, next year, even if this year seems impossible.

There's no path to the NCAA without the RAC being sold out for 8 or 9 out of the 10 B1G home games. The RAC must rock to discuss this and tomorrow night is step one on a very long journey.

It is still November, and the possibility of making the tournament is an extreme longshot. So to those of you already contemplating the possibility, I say go for it! WTF!

Great win last night but we re not a NCAA team. Enjoy the fun this year and next year will be the year of contention for a bid. This year we have several key issues such as no backup PG and a conference that is tough as hell. If Mulcahy and Young are the real deal, and we get 1-2 new bigs, next year will be a lot more fun and I expect to be sitting on my couch in March 2020, with such great anticipation whether we receive a bid on Selection Sunday.
