Our Trapping Defense

WF got a couple of good looks on corner 3s but I'll take that exchange any time: our trapping chewed up possession time, took them out of their offense, and led to a bunch of turnovers.
Late in the game, we defended well, knocked the ball out of bounds and there were 9 seconds left to shoot. We basically trapped the remainder of the clock away on that possession.

Early on it made Wake look like a complete mess on offense. Lots of turnovers, and even on the possessions where they did score it felt like a lot of lucky breaks.

There was one play where they had nowhere to go and legit inbounded the ball to no one but ended up getting to the loose ball first and coming away with two points.

I remember that. They threw it to no one and nowhere, but it was just beyond our guys’ reach. I think it actually started a break for them.

Yea that play was soooo lucky

This team overall presses very well. Mag is maybe the best presser I've ever seen. Even when we send him in a less aggressive one man press at times he has has made it difficult to bring the ball up court. It's insane how little he gets called for fouls considering how hard he presses too

Mag brings chaos everywhere he goes and I love it. Seemingly everywhere when we’re pressing and is incredible at pressuring the inbounder. Certainly helps that he’s almost always over the line and treats the baseline as more of a suggestion than an actual boundary.

There were also a NUMBER of times where there were uncalled 5 second violations….

1 Mississippi Mississippi
2 Mississippi Mississippi
3 Mississippi Mississippi
4 Mississippi Mississippi Mississippi Mississippi….

WF was physically/mentally exhausted at end of game.
This is what I love about defensive intensity. Getting in the mind of the guy opposite you, where their offensive possession becomes a chore.

I said to my seatmates that I would hate to have to face our press if I was an opposing guard. So much work and pressure before you get to a place where you can run your set. It’s insane!

Back to back shot clock violations when they were down trying to come back is so impressive. Milking the clock for us
That’s when I asked a WF guy (who grew up w Paul and was rooting hard for him)…”Why did your offense go into a 4 corner stall when you are behind double digits?”

He just laughed and shook his head.

Mag is an athletic freak with long arms that are all over the place...so much fun to watch him defend...especially when we press. I think he's the one reason Pike is willing and able to put the full court pressure on real basketball teams. Love this kid.
