What's the purpose of using these firms in hiring a coach?
Is it just so they can make the phone calls so stuff isn't open to OPRA and so athletic departments can claim that they've never contacted such and such a candidate (since he's under contract at another university)? Are they just there to do the background checks on the candidates?
I've never seen a consulting firm say ... "You know, a guy you should really look at is the defensive line coach at Middle Tennessee State. He's way under the radar, but a great head coaching candidate" In the end the people interviewed are almost always the people that are common sense.
