NFL doing more post game fining ("gameday-accountability") these days

"This is a huge fine for Pacheco and that's because it will eat up more than 80% of his paycheck for Week 14.

Pacheco is on his rookie deal and because of that, his base salary is just $985,000 this year. That number is paid out over 18 weeks, which means that Pacheco gets $54,722 per game. With the NFL collecting $45,020, that means that Pacheco will be handing over 82.2% of his paycheck.

NFL legend J.J. Watt called out the NFL for handing out such a big fine to someone for "playing football."

Lots of names.

If the defense can't lower their head than the offense shouldn't be able to either.
I'm surprised this isn't called on the offende more.

That being said, it's a dumb rule and this shouldn't be a penalty/fine.
The whole "targeting" and using helmet as a weapon is incredibly overzealous (grest word used above to describe it.)

Big fines like that should be based on salary % perhaps

Joey Porter fined for unnecessary Roughness with striking/kicking/kneeing - only $11,817

Lots of unnecessary roughness fines that are cheaper

Great idea.
A flat fee provides incentiv high salary player to break rules because the fine is immaterial to them.
Where someone like IP gets overly penalized.

I wonder how teams or teammates handle this.
Do they informally cover it for him?

If you're going to fine someone (that was not penalized during a game), why doesn't the NFL then fine the player as a percentage of their weekly salary? I mean, penalizing him so much (relatively) is crazy.

So, let's assume it is an uncalled penalty, and the league reviews it and fines the player. I am granting the NFL's narrative.

What is the penalty or fine to EACH member of the officiating crew for missing such an "egregious" call?

what they all miss is that the head is attached to the body. If you want to get low.. the head has to come down.

the fine is ridiculous.. hope there is an appeal process.. a very public one.. maybe even sue the NFL over it.

BUT.. if they started calling offensive players for lowering the head like a battering ram all the time.. then fines make sense. I'd also like to see them call stiff-arms to the head the same as they do for linemen or the defense "hands to the face".

either the head is off-limits as a weapon or a target or it is not.. this *sometimes* thing is just ridiculous.

Sue the NFL? Lol.

I have looked at the video on youtube a number of times and I cannot see anything out of the ordinary. If there was something wrong, the defender contributed to it as much as Pacheco. What am I missing?

Pacheco has a hard running style and I wondered if HQ wasn't on the lookout for something to fine him for.
Nobody really sees a big deal with the hit

This guy was funny

I’m not even understanding how the league even found this random run and decided to fine anyone on it. It was maybe one random play out of 4000 or so during the week.

Is this the only one levied this week/season?

Or are we only hearing about it because it’s him?

JuJu (WR) also got fined for use of helmet this week.

Maybe it's a Chiefs thing?
Except for the whole "the NFL is rigged for KC" thing.

Roger's league anymore is a watered-down cosplay of football.

Notice how a few players having towels, turned into many players wearing what looks like flags. Now consider the " Pro Bowl", that has already been turned into flag football.

All the overkill rule changes, figure it out, this is predictive programing. In IDK 10 years all games will be flag. Oh but it's for player safety. Well buck up buttercup all activities have inherent risks. The difference in this game you can make life changing (for the better) money.

No more running behind your pads. Physically impossible.

This makes rb's tackling dummies.

You'd be crazy to become a running back in high school / college if you have NFL talent.

I'm sure it's possible to see all fines assessed for the season.
I would imagine the high % is causing the stir.

Only did a quick Google search but here the same play from last year.
There is video in the article of a 2nd play and fine on a TE.

https://sports.yahoo.com/why-dandre...=Pretty crazy for a running,to improve to 7-1.
Wait.. this was a $9,857 fine for Swift last season and its $45,000 this season for Pacheco?

Inflation really is going wild.

Thanks, Brandon.

** also, it really looks like the NFL office has a quota going for 1% or all plays to be fined. Week 13 it was only 0.67% of all plays generated fines so they had to go over in week 14 and Pacheco's fine to meet their fine revenue quota for the season.
