Palmquist

Pikiell always talks about how there are only so many minutes available. With Griffiths, Mulcahy and Spencer on the team, Oscar was not going to get too many minutes. But now he'll get something comparable to last season if not more. So definitely worth bringing back.

Although I love NJ Hawk, that seems like an overly rosy outlook to say Spencer left primarily because Griffiths was going to get his minutes. Spencer and Mulcahy were both going to get a ton of minutes if they stayed here.

Disagree …..

I went over this on the round table

Assuming Mawot and Aundre don’t play a single minute ar the three (which they will), before rhe transfer of cam and Paul…we had 120 minutes for

Cam
Paul
Noah
Derek
Gavin
JaMichawl

We didn’t bring in Noah to sit ….he was recruited to UPGRADE the backcourt , and by extension , needs 25-30 minutes to do ao

That leaves 90-95 for
Cam
Paul
Gavin
Derek
JaMichael

If you are telling me that cam and Paul were getting their same 30 minutes a game , then WHO isn’t getting minutes with the remaining 30-35 minutes between

Gavin
Derek
JaMichael

???????????????

We never heard Derek’s name once being mentioned as a transfer candidate …so he always felt secure in his minutes …so let’s say he is number 2 at 20-25 minutes

So let’s allocate 50 minutes to Derek and Noah (and it could be 55)

That’s 70 minutes for
Paul
Cam
Gavin
JaMichawl

You think we are only playing Gavin 10 minutes and game and airous bailey’s best friend is sitting , so Paul and cam get 30 minutes per game????

The reality is …coach recruited Gavin and Noah to improve our back court …and the same minutes were not going to be there for both Cam and paul

Yea…BOTH cam and paul

Both paul and cam woukd have had to earn Their minutes this year …..and saw that it was not likely that they were getting last years 30 plus minutes a game…and both need PY to show they have a shot at the nba

So while NIL dough elsewhere made it quite easy for both to go elsewhere …does anyone believe that both would not still be here if they knew they would get 30-32 minutes a game of guaranteed PT on a big ten program ???

They would have asked for RU to come up with NIL and staying hwre

The NIL made it easy to be elsewhere…especially if they aren’t gojng to get the same minutes to showcase their talent for a hopeful future nba career….

I really like Paul and cam …really do

But they did what was best for them (and entitled to do ao)….and part of them doing best was being in a situation maximize the combo of NIL dough and being somewhere on the court

They just weren’t getting the same minutes here this year …so taking the NIL money elsewhere made it easier for them to Jump

Put 2 and 2 together guys …..this isn’t hard to see and read between the lines as laid out above …..

The only problem with this argument for Cam is that he transferred to a place where he’s guaranteed to get less minutes. Potentially cutting his time in half. He had way more guaranteed time here.

He didn't have more guaranteed time here though. As shown in the post you responded it.

Less minutes is fine - if it comes with more opportunity for success (UConn).
That's not the same as less minutes with no guarantee of more success (Rutgers).

If he was guaranteed 30+min at Rutgers v. less minutes with opportunity for more success - that could be a decision for him to make.
But that doesn't appear to have been the situation.

Im at a place with this where I really hope the reason he left is because he resented whatever package we gave Noah to convince him to come. If it was more than Cam’s deal perhaps he felt like we didn’t value him. He could’ve asked for more but maybe he took us not being proactive as an insult and moved on. If he knew all along he was leaving and accepted grad school admission at RU that is just so messed up…. We’ll never know.

The surrounding cast is very different now than when Oskar first made his decision. Our roster is set up in a way where there is now a legit path for him to get solid role player minutes. He would give Pike more options depending on the match up. If we can get him back at this stage it would be a win.

Agree with you. There were some times last year when Palmquist, Cam, and Mulcahy were on the court at the same time making for a terribly slow defensive unit, and non of the 3 could creat their own shot. This year, we should have three player who can do it (Noah, Simpson, and Griffiths).

I appreciate the time you spent to create this response. You make a good argument that Cam and Paul would not have had as many minutes, even with McConnel leaving. But I stand behind the opinion that they would have both played a lot and more than the newcomers. As we sit, Pike seems to feel there are minutes for Oscar despite all of these new additions. So it's a bit of a leap of faith to think these guys are upgrades over Spencer and Mulcahy. I understand you're not the only one that disagrees with me.

Not that long ago someone on here thought the avatar was a picture of @S_Janowski and he just went along with it. Made me laugh
It wasn't me, but admittedly I'd never heard of the show "Eastbound and Down", so I wasn't familiar with the characters... Based on his posts, I knew S_Janowski wasn't loony enough to post his own photo, but I had no idea who the photo was. Because of that, I pretty much pictured the words from every post that S_Janowski posted as coming out of that guy's mouth, LOL.... By the way, is the show worth checking out?

After years of being bad, and then having a short bench, this board has a lot of trouble coming to terms with a team that would have/or will have depth. I think it will be okay and would have been if Paul and Cam had stayed. Pikes is a good coach and would have figured it out.

Pike is moving to speed and quickness, lumbering offense doesn’t win in March
yes and no.

If you look at Pike's teams in Stony Brook, there were actually high scoring teams.

He needed to compete in B1G and only way he can do it was with good defense with the talent he was bringing in. Now he is able to recruit 4-5 star guys. Most of these ratings are based on their offensive ability. Odds are 4-5 stars are better equipped with natural offensive skills than 3 stars, where we have to find sleeper.

So i would say, its not that he is moving to speed and quickness because his style lumbering offense didnt work before. Pike is finally able to have more options in recruiting his type of players.

Don't listen to that.
GG is 99% starting from day 1.
I think people are forgetting Mag is unlikely to be ready.

Fernandes, Simpson, Mag, Hyatt, Clif is starting Day 1?
If Mag is healthy he's starting over Hyatt, not GG.
if GG starts Day 1 not due to injury of another player, then that was promised him during recruiting. I know his recruiting ranking, but I think Pike will ease his adjustment and lessen the pressure by starting him later.

Also, i think it’s telling that Hyatt didnt transfer.
