I think his goal is to be a National Champion. If it wasn't, why even continue wrestling? What else would he have to gain to come back? Since I feel that is his goal, I think he'd keep his nose clean in fear of a repeat of this past year and not being allowed to participate at Nationals.
I'm not saying he'd turn a new leaf at all. And I'm certainly not saying he'd be that choir boy for the sake of a program. What I am saying is I think he'd keep his nose clean for selfish reasons. It's all about him and he wants to be a National Champion. Not for his friends, family, his school and program but for his selfish self...
The evidence contradicts this.
After Jackson booted him from the team, PD3 cleared out his Twitter and Instagram accounts. All of it, not just the highly offensive stuff. Good idea -- lay low, show remorse, learn from mistakes, maybe a grad transfer is viable, right?
Yeah, that lasted less than 2 weeks, and not just on social media.
And, on the off chance his sub-zero self-discipline might improve at Rutgers, PD2 will be a mere 2.5 hr drive away to reinforce all the bad behavior.
Ultimately it won't matter. Forget wrestling: who from ISU will write him letters of recommendation? What admissions officer will approve him? What academic department will accept him? What college administrator would risk getting fired over someone with PD3's consistently erratic, violent, alcohol/drug fueled, sexually aberrant record?
And it's not as easy as "one strike and he's off the team." He's still on campus, interacting with the wrestlers and the rest of the student body. Until he does something worse. Which he will. He always has. The scorpion stings because that's all it knows.
