Is it fair to say to say that the mess at Paterson Eastside HS hoops is the mountain to the University of North Carolina mole hill if you read the Star-Lecher?
The Eastside thing is not a sports story, it's an educational scandal at one of New Jersey's biggest high schools. It should be on the front page every day.BoroKnight ... The S-L has more readers who are college basketball fans than high school fans.
So why is NJ.com covering the jersey players going to Boston College. Who Cares! Why create an article for a handful of BC alums in the NJ metro area? Are they Boston.com? If they were Boston.com they wouldn't be writing too many articles on BC. Nobody cares about them in Boston.WTF? Is this actual, serious criticism? Foolish.
Why would the largest newspaper in New Jersey cover anything at UNC? And why wouldn't it go all-out over a scandal at a prominent New Jersey school?
Back when The Home News and The News Tribune merged, the very first day of the combined newspaper featured a huge 1A story about a similar scandal at Piscataway Tech. It's BIG news when this kind of thing happens at a nearby school.
What's happening at UNC is something the AP is supposed to cover, and if it doesn't, or if a paper located down there owned by the same chain doesn't, there's nothing for the S-L to print. Even then, as most newspapers don't have as much space as they used to, wasting it on something happening in North Carolina is pretty silly.
Now if UNC actually gets hit hard -- sure, that's likely; there aren't rules against some of what happened there because, well, nobody wanted to give the NCAA that kind of power and/or nobody thought such a thing would come up (like Penn State) -- then the AP obviously will cover it and papers across the country will pick it up. Until then ...
Sheesh.
