Paul rumor

Why are you policing how other fans feel?
Because it's frankly embarrassing. A kid that did everything he was asked to do is getting ripped by fellow alums. That reflects poorly on the alums we have.

Graduated in 3 years and stayed a 4th year. If not for COVID he's out of eligibility.

The same fans that are butthurt are the ones that are more than happy to send their kids to other schools that aren't named Rutgers. I won't stand for hypocrisy.

It wasn't a last second defection. He could've waited til September if he really wanted to be a jerk. He went through the NBA evaluation process and decided he wasn't ready for NBA yet.
I'm embarrassed I'm even giving you the attention you crave, Paul gave 4 years (1 more than he technically had to since he graduated last year). He also is a Rutgers alum.
Good for Paul to spread his wings after his role was going to be changed.
Something tells me if your manager tells you that your role is changing you'd be inclined to look around too.
Lol...I dont crave any attention, so I'm embarrassed for you that you even went down that avenue. Yes, I appreciated what he did for RU and cheered him on during that time. Based on the timing and how the portal works (i.e. graduates having different rules for portal entry and how most undergrad portal designees were already committed), he screwed his coach, the team and also the fan base. If you took a poll whether Paul screwed the team over vs not, the majority would say he did I bet. I am a fiercely loyal person and believe in commitments and honoring them. Paul left the team at the altar and for that and based on my beliefs, he fails in my book. In regards to your last sentence, my roles have changed and I am with the same organization for the past 23 years. So another swing and a miss on your assumptions.
My judgment is usually not way off base.
You were this time.

Did your role change voluntarily or did your manager change your role? There's a difference

PM can do whatever he wants just think it’s a dumb move, that is very short sighted. He really blows off his RU legacy and becomes a play for higher guy somewhere, no matter what he does it will be little noted nor long remembered. There is lots of money to be made in this market post basketball why walk away.
The team will change this year perhaps he felt his style of play no longer would be complimentary?
At one of his last post games he referenced what a great coach Pike was if he was sincere why walk out the back door, when you could finish off a hell of a career and cement your legacy?

I have also decided I wasn't ready for the NBA yet. I'll check back in with the NBA next year and tell them my decision.

Note - I don't care that Paul decided to leave but that wording was funny had to make a joke.

I mean he feels his best chance at the next level is at PG. So he's moving on to play PG. He hinted at that in his farewell message too. I think the writing was on the wall when Fernandes was brought in. Think Paul would've made a solid SF but if he feels like he's best at PG he should go seek it out.

I am Grateful 4 the time we had him.. same for Cam Spencer.. wish he had a better time at Rutgers and wouldn't consider having left... but a payday for him must be hard to turn down... and he's gonna play for the defending National Champs and their coach who just won it... and UCONN is now tied for 4th with Duke and Indiana with 5 Tourney Championships and is ahead of Kansas now. Only 15 teams have won it more than once. and only 24 teams have won it at all since 1970... 53 Tourneys.

Rutgers wins it in 2026 BTW.. after coming close in 2025.

Put a price tag on a RU legacy?

Ru legacy ?? What are we Duke.
Historically our program is a s stinker
but despite that , there are some RU players over the course if RU's MBB history that could be considered legacy players.
Also one HC in particlure must be considered someone that left a legacy other RUMBB HCs have to live up to

i wanted Paul on our team this year but don’t fault that he decided to leave
regardless of the timing. He clearly is someone who gives a lot of thought to the situation and decided that his role this year would change so he’s moving on to a place that fits with his desire to play PG. I would never boo him at the RAC, even if he returned with a B1G opponent.

Exactly this. If he wants to play PG and Pikiell wants him at SF he should look elsewhere. I assure everyone here he has nothing against Pikiell or Rutgers and will likely be back at the RAC at some point in the future. Won't be this year.

thanks, make it two that every RU MBB HC have to live up to their legacy.
I believe Bill went to Duke after 3 years at Utah and pointed the Blue Devils' program towards greatness

Something tells me that Paul ends up at ND. He wanted to go there in hs but didn’t get a sniff from Mike Brey.

ND is coming off a terrible season (11-21, 3-17) and has a depleted roster. Shrewsbury brought 2 players from PSU but they are very inexperienced in the backcourt.

Legacy plays post basketball ie job opportunities in the metro area, PM is not going to the NBA ever, so what's life after BB look like. If you were a Rutgers guy would you help him and or hire him at this point some probably still would some would not.

LOL. He could play 5-10 more years in college and he wouldn't be ready for the NBA.
most college players are like that.
Some just shine in the college game but their skill set doesn't go well in the pro game.
Even some #1 draft choices didn't make it in the pros.
College basketball fans should be happy if the players at their school do well
and making a pro team just considered gravy, but a good college career is nothing to mock if they don't

We'll take him in a heartbeat. ND is a great fit for him. He would have a chance to get the minutes he seeks and a great Grad Degree .

I hope he fails miserably at his next stop
In a way I do too, but not in a malicious way.

Pattern starting to form with kids moving on from Rutgers. Myles didn’t do well at UCLA. JY not good at Oregon. Tez not so hot at SJU. Seems like our boys (Im not talking about bench warmers dropping down a level) fare better overall by seeing it through at RU…. Not a bad track record to have.

That's a rude thing to say about a Rutgers alum. #4 all time in assists in program history. He did everything he was asked to do on and off the court including staying an extra year.
It’s not rude not to want to see him go somewhere else (another high major) and perform like a star. That reflects on RU as if another program developed him better than us. We ought to want what’s best for RU’s future. No hard feelings. I certainly wish him a successful, healthy career overseas once his college playing days are over.

RU will be just fine. Have no doubt.

Cement your legacy as what?

I like Mulchahy the way I also like Draymond. But if he plays for another B1G school, I'd be pretty upset with him. I hope Paul can get a good NIL deal with St Johns.
To close, Notre Dame or a non B1G midwest school or non B1G anywhere except an east coast program.
Even BC would be too close .

Didn't he do that here ?
most of the time he distributed to the shot makers while not being a scoring threat .
When things went well he was praise for the way he played, things not going so good made for complaints about his game was heard.
All in all Paul was a big asset, though some are implying he was more of a liability in which I disagree..
Too many expect Paul to have had Magic Johnson qualities, even though Paul was a good player that made the most of his talent in which scoring ability and speed wasn't something that Paul didn't have enough of to be considered a top talent .
Just a player with great BasketBall IQ that made the most of what talent he had

You need to post your rule book so we know how to act as a Rutgers fan and supporter. You have no issue jumping all over people who make what they perceive to be the best choices for them or their families (kids) when it comes to college decisions, etc, but you’re totally cool with Paul walking out the door.
