Paul rumor

You need to post your rule book so we know how to act as a Rutgers fan and supporter. You have no issue jumping all over people who make what they perceive to be the best choices for them or their families (kids) when it comes to college decisions, etc, but you’re totally cool with Paul walking out the door.
Paul picked Rutgers and graduated in 3 years. He didn't walk out the door. In fact he stayed an extra year more than he had to. Did everything he was supposed to do.

Good for Paul. Maybe you can go follow and root for Michigan or ND or whatever school he chooses since you seem to be his champion at every turn in these threads. He certainly has every right to leave, but fans also have every right to root the way they want to situationally for a captain who waited until after the portal closed for non grads to announce.

The corporate equivalent would be a tax accountant leaving right before tax season with no notice. Do you think the company would readily welcome him back with open arms just because he had previously did what he was supposed to by working the previous 4 tax seasons?

Last time I checked the basketball season doesn't start til November. Paul was a graduate so your point is kinda weird. He was my favorite player and I'd much rather him wear the RU uniform, but it appears Pikiell wants much faster guards (bringing in Noah to pair with Derek). I would absolutely feel differently if Paul had waited til even say September when both the portal had closed and options are drying up, but it appears we are in the mix still for highly talented kids that will help push our program further in the long run. Both things can be true.

The last thing I'll say is I'll be a champion for just about anyone that graduated from Rutgers.

Go RU!

But you only care about undergrad right? Grad school means nothing to you.

It doesn't. That's not a requirement. We've gotten grad transfers in too. I get you're just looking for an excuse to be butthurt but they need to do what's best for them. Pikiell wanted him at SF and he wanted to be a PG. He actually did the right thing by deciding so quickly after the NBA workouts.

I’m not “rooting” for Paul at his next stop. Mostly indifferent. I’m rooting against Cam and will probably follow UConn more hoping to see them lose. Paul didn’t deceive our staff the way Cam did. He was undecided all along (hadn’t committed to be back) and ultimately just didn’t want to play a different type of role from the one he’s played most of his career at RU.

Exactly how I feel. Thanks for saying it better than I ever could've.

Get a grip. Transfer Portal is closed. It closes 60 days after the championship for winter sports which was early June. Which means Paul waited until the Portal closed to announce his intentions. Only thing open to RU to fill roster spots for the coming season is other Grad Transfers and walk ons at this point.

But he did it a month later than Cam and he did AFTER Cam left, when he was need the most and when there are almost no options to replace him….and Cam wasn’t a Captain while Paul also claimed Pike is the best coach in the world.

Perhaps Pike knew what he would decide, but if he didn’t it’s kind of like leaving a job without giving two weeks notice.

He kind of stuck it to us. He’s no better than Cam.

There's no good time to leave. Don't know how else to say this but 4 years here is better than 1 year here.

For every person that says he walked out the door,
there's one that says good riddance, he over stayed his welcome.
This guy was a team person totally, I think all this negative talk about him
is mind boggling. And he knows it is time to
do what is best for him.

Is Paul going to the highest bidder or going for the best opportunity to win next season?
I wouldn't be surprised if a combo of highest bidder & best chance using the highest bidder to get the best price from the programs he thinks has the best chance to go all the way

Coaching staff could have pressed the issue earlier. Paul doing what he feels is best for him at the last moment he could... that's not on Paul... that's on coaching staff for not getting his staus set in stone earlier... decide by, say, April 1 if you want to come back, otherwise we will work to fill your spot. Easy, right?

Bit, really, all these changes in NIL, transfer portal, deadlines etc... coaching staff will know better next time.

Good points. Pike signed Fernandes on April 13th, so did Paul take that as a shot over the bow of the ship?

As an RU fan I’ll take Fernandes as starting PG over Paul for this season. We need a guy who can drive to the basket and Noah can do that well.

You’re not wrong here. We also don’t know if Pike already knew what he was going to do earlier….although I would have hoped he would have had a replacement somewhat lined up if that was the case…. In any event, regardless of who it’s on, it shouldn’t have happened this way. Everyone is learning the new ways in this free-for all that’s we’re calling “amateur” sports.

It’s probably somewhere in the middle. Paul doesn’t seem like the deceitful type. He wouldn’t make for a good poker player. My guess is Pike knew he wasn’t happy when Noah was brought in and that he might not stay. It was probably something like - “you know I love Rutgers, but my dream is to play professional ball one day as a PG so this is something I’m going to really have to think about”.

No way of knowing this for sure, but it’s what I believe happened and for this reason, I don’t view Paul’s departure in the same category as a kid who came out and said he was returning and took up an admission spot as an entrant into one of our grad programs. Nowhere near the same.

i think we need to pump the brakes a bit here. lets see him on the court....actually see him on the court as he has been injury prone.

there is a bit of a transition from A10 to B1G. He will go from being the best player who you want the ball in his hands to hopefully a guy you want as a balanced point guard.

he is also 5'11''

this!! Everyone assumes Fernandes is an automatic 30 min 12 ppg 6 asst control the game and defend well player. We all hope so. But he is short, and injury prone, and played at a lower level. Pump the brakes on having ourselves a Trae Young.
