Per source: Drew mehringer out as OC

What a rat bastard punk. He's given the opportunity of a lifetime by Ash and he runs away after one year to take A DEMOTION. Hope to see him fail.
I don't care what kind of budget Texas has, it has to be equivalent at least to tOSU and their wr coach made about half of what drew made here at rutgers as OC.

So without any knowledge at all I gotta think this was mutual or drew was sufficiently concerned about his leash here.

All that sais, perhaps the role is a co oc type deal. In that case it makes more sense

Giving up an OC position at a P5 program for an up and coming HC to become a position coach speaks volumes.

Follow the money (OC vs WR) and draw your own conclusions.

Will Rutgers stay with the spread offense concept or will the new OC modify the offensive strategy with Ash approval.

Interesting

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

He went to TEXAS, to coach with his GOOD FRIEND, that's it. Nothing so "see here."

Great news. Not if Ash is gone after next year and we can give Dan Mullen 5 million per year to come back to his roots in the northeast....yippee!

I dropped some hints on here a few days ago..I didnt know this move was happening 100% just that the 'situation' wasnt the best after a few player 'moves' during the season.
This is for the long term best people..it just wasnt a fit.
now..RU cant screw this up..our last two OCs were "up and coming wonder kids" and neither worked out..

time TO HIRE A PROVEN FIVE PROVEN POWER FIVE OC,OR AN EX HEAD COACH WITH A OFFENSE BACKGROUND.

Dan Mullen without one other coach on his staff could outcoach Ash with 50 assistants!!!!! Get it done Hobbs! Mullen for 5 million a year!!!!!!!

THIS IS FOR THE LONG TERM BEST PEOPLE...RU JUST NEEDS TO HIRE AN EX HC OR PROVEN POWER FIVE OC...NO CHEAP ASS MOVE NOW..

Yeah uhm this is NOT a "crow-eating" scenario. He left for Texas, didn't get fired, big differences.

Nice loyality to Ash and RU if left on own volition after one year of offensive hell.

If forced out all criticisms were valid.

Either way lots of crow eating as clearly was wrong man for the job as many said from day one of his hire.

Thank God this book is closed.

Please hire someone with real D1 experience.

Plenty of non-P5 OC's out there who would be GREAT hires and what current P5 OC is going to leave their school to come here?

Agree, IF "forced out" there would be crow to be eaten, however, that's not the case. Regardless no need for the bashing here by some IMHO. He's going to a better program, period, it would be hard for him NOT to take that job.

Does this have something to do with Martin?

He went to TEXAS, to coach with his GOOD FRIEND, that's it. Nothing so "see here."

He is a big boy who has his own career to think of.
Giving up an OC position for a WR position is a regression.

Not a good move for resume enhancement for future job opportunities.

Now did he take a Salary Reduction to be with his Good Friend.

Follow the money.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Nothing worse than people saying "follow the money." You're essentially saying "I have no idea what I'm talking about, hence, this is the answer AND only possible answer."

Believe it, or not, money isn't always the case.

This is not a common place occurrence. 1st coaches don't demote themselves from P5 school to P5 school voluntarily for a bromance or Texas. I have only scene this done FCS to FBS unless fired. What's he going to be a WR's or QB coach, he's not going to be making $450,000 for that even at Texas. If I was to hedge my bets this was a nudge out the door in the nicest and quietest ways possible.

Those of you thinking we're gonna hire someone who is going to run a different type of O, uhm, you can probably forget about it. Ash came in here WANTING to run this O, and he and his staff are building the O (see: recruiting) for this O, so don't get your hopes up fellas.

Watch for Brian Wright, OC at Toledo.
Here's why:
Coached for 3 years as OC under Charlie Partridge at FAU, although Charlie fired him.
Charlie is Ash's buddy.
Wright's offense at Toledo was #4 in Nation.

Wright undertook the task of converting FAU to an up-tempo attack as opposed to the pro-style which had been the Owls’ mainstay. FAU made significant improvements in all major offensive categories from the previous season, including total offense and points scored.

This one makes a lot of sense (and I expect Partridge may come on board in some capacity as well).

With all due respect Nuts, that doesn't make a ton of sense. If that was the case, Ash wouldn't leave OSU to come to Rutgers. Lane Kiffin wouldn't be trying to leave Bama. Coaches don't take demotions to go to a better name program unless they see their future is over at the current program. He would also most likely be taking a large pay cut. How often does that happen?

I have no idea where Capt Kirk stuff is coming from but Ive heard it twice now..could be BS.

re: going to Texas and salary, Drew might not be taking a dip at all and, if so, it'll be minimal. This is an article from last spring both WR and TE coach earned a base salary of $375K and were up for salary increases going into the season. Also:

"All assistant coaches, Davis noted, receive a $7,500 annual car allowance — yes, that’s a monthly payment of $625 — and a membership to the UT Golf Club, which is estimated to be $10,000, according to their contracts.

No, what I am saying is you know what he was getting as an OC at Rutgers and you will have to wait to find out what he will be receiving as a position coach at Texas.

The money issue will be able to be determined in due time.

You say there is nothing more to this story other than he wants to be with his good friend.

You also do not know that is the case in this situation.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

You're right, I don't, I'm just putting everything together. See my post above about what Strong's WR and TE coaches were both earning.
