Per Sports Biz Daily: Big 12 TV partners push back on expansion

Did not read but are you surprised the people who expansion will cost money are against it?

No. Interestingly, these networks agreed to increase the revenue by the amount they pay each team rather than renegotiate the financial deal. My thinking is the networks wanted it like this when there were rumblings of the Big 12 adding FSU and Clemson and hoped to get that on the cheap rather than paying a premium for the current cast of expansion candidates.

I'd consider expanding anyway. The sports TV bubble is close to bursting, so the next contract is going to be less than the current ones in my opinion. I expect all games will get streamed over the internet (even games on whatever cable / satellite providers still exist) by 2025. May as well grab the cash while its there.

I agree that there would be no value to the teams they are considering. I would have to believe UConn is off the table, I just don't see how they add value to any conference. If the ACC passed over them more than once, that aught to tell the Big 12 something. As far as Memphis goes, I don't buy into all this FedEx money. I doubt it would ever happen. Cincy is a nice little program, but that is Kentucky basketball and OSU football country. They already have Texas, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, they need another Texas school like a hole in the head. BYU is an interesting choice, but do you really want a football only member, because they are not going to budge on the playing on Sunday issue. The only teams that would actually add value and also improve the level of play in the conference are Clemson and FSU.

If I'm in charge at UT & Oklahoma I'm doing everything in my power to get off the Titanic. Now I know that means UT sucking it up & dropping their joke of a network but damn it could be worth it. I'd love to see a scenario where those two schools are added to the B1G.

I would think Cincy could bring some TV sets as Ohio is a big football state. It is dominated by OSU, yes, but I have been out there when Cincy was good and the town gets into it.

Interesting. I think it means two teams max now if they expand. I wonder what happens if they add teams and ESPN and Fox decide it might be cheaper to breach the contract and not pay. ESPN has also been known to destabilize a conf when they cannot get their way as the old Big East found out.
