Pharrel Payne in Portal. Any guess as to how much he would cost...

Just read the tweets about the cost of top centers which he is

But you seem to think a back up could go for under 100K. Starting to get the feeling Green is right. There may not be a center who logged more than 5 minutes a game in D1 who won’t get 150k next year. Even mid majors Sigh

20/21 year old kids who have no chance to even get a what (600k or so?) 2 way contract are getting paid millions in college. And people literally think the system is not a joke?

If they can’t earn that playing as a pro, how can that possibly be their value?

How you can even mention Pharrell and Manny in the same sentence shows how lost you are. Pharrell played or started numerous games for a top 10-15 team in the toughest conference in the country and was a part of every scouting report. Buzz played 3 centers so he shared time. But he was very impactful.
Manny has not even gotten a notice on any body’s scouting report. Manny has done almost nothing in 2 years compared to Pharrell .
When Manny’s NIL comes out looking forward to discussing with you again so the actual worth is revealed because you citing Greene’s ridiculous $800,000 is just that , ridiculous.

Your value is what someone is willing to pay. College values will be more inflated than the NBA, because there's an emotional element for boosters to contribute - whereas in the NBA, salary and endorsements are based much more on ROI.

I’m not comparing them. The point is the market for top tier centers is over 2.5 M. That likely means that even a third string one is worth over 100k at this point. Guys get hurt. There simply aren’t that many 6-10 guys out there.

PSAL - You know we agree way more than we disagree.

That said, there is no way you can credibly argue Ogbole's (or a player like him with his pedigree and accomplishments - and only 1 year left, for that matter) value is more (or less, for that matter) than $100K. Unless you have inside info, you cannot know.

In fact, is not part of the ssettlement that we hope is approved pn April 7 that the NIL "contracts" would be publicly dsiclosed and be tiered, so comparative values can be made transparent - or something like that (I may have the description wrong - or the facts, for that matter).

The point isn't what their "value" is, none of these guys are as valuable as they are getting paid. It's what someone would give them. I put EO somewhere between the $100K I think spots 11-13 on the bench are getting and $400K I think a back up center is getting. Either end of that spectrum wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Oh I really hope not. I didn’t think the back up market was worth this much at all. But Green seems to think it might be. If the rising senior version of Shaq Doorson would be worth anything close to the 800k he suggests (heck even half of that) - Ogbole has to be worth a lot more than 100k to someone. I really hope Green is wrong. But compare Shaq’s junior stats to Ogbole’s. Ogbole’s are probably better and that team wasn’t better than 2024-25 either.

When college players who are supposed to be student athletes get paid more than professors , there is something seriously wrong that needs to be changed ASAP.
When they make more than the head coach … that’s a problem.
Professors and “Pay To Play” athletes compete in vastly different worlds.

They are not college players. They are pros with a university name printed on their Jersey.
Winning nothing. No championships. No regular season titles. No conference titles. No post season tourneys.

Losers getting paid millions to do nothing but be failures.

Great system 👍
