Pike is just an idiot.

Best case is he follows Jay Wright, Jimmy Larranaga, and Coach K and realizes the game has passed him by and retires.

Otherwise Pike is ours until 2030 as I don’t see us buying out his insanely outsized contract.

The big question is will he wallow in failure until he extracts every dollar he can from RU or does his pride lead him to retirement.

Not calling a time out in OT in a tie game with 20 seconds to go is horrible. It’s baffling.

Call the timeout, and draw up a play that gives you 3 different options.

Spoiler: one of your options should not be a JWil 3.

It’s just so bad.

Lol everyone slammed him for taking the timeout before the last possession against Minnesota

There is zero chance he is here in 2030. The buyout goes way down well before that. If next year begins to look like this one, he's going to get the sh&t booed out of him.

Not getting the ball into Harper knowing they're going to foul. JWill taking last second shots. Harper not going to the basket, his strength. Maybe the guy is just dumb. Regardless, just get him outa here. FIND THEEEEEEEEEE MONEY.
You idiot. Harper HAD the ball and didn’t go to the hoop. Then he had a step-back jumper and instead passed it to Williams. Coaches fault.

Wasn't he out of timeouts?

JWill had a WIDE OPEN three attempt there. You take your chance on that almost every time, unless its Ogbole taking it. We'd already seen Harper keep it, JWill's attempt was closer.

End of regulation up 2-Williams called Timeout in a near jump ball tie up. We then again have no inbounds play to inbound to or even use the size of Lathan or Dylan to catch and get fouled. That’s coaching mal practice. There was no screen no cut to the ball nothing OUT OF A TIMEOUT

I’ll admit I’m unsure if he was out of time outs or not, but I don’t believe so. If I’m wrong I take it all back.

As for the JWill thing, he’s like my 5th option in that situation.

Already said this in the game thread, but bears repeating here. USC was running everything through Desmond Claude on offense. He picked up his fourth foul with 19 seconds left in regulation.

We didn’t try to take the ball at him. We didn’t screen to try and get him switched onto Dylan or Jeremiah and have them go to the basket. We just let him hide off ball on defense for ten full game minutes while he picked us apart in the other end.

Dylan played great but at the end game twice he was not even down to get the inbound pass. Instead Jeremiah got fouled and missed both foul shots. Than in the first OT I believe Dylan had the ball with 20 second and with under 10 seconds he should have taken the ball to the basket, instead he passed the ball to Jeremiah who hits threes at under 30 % and he missed. I don't blame Pike for that as Dylan should have drove and tried to at least draw a foul. It is a really tough loss as we should have won.

Ehhhh they call a timeout they’re literally just going to run the same play (get it to Dylan for an iso).

The tragedy was how Dylan didn’t drive to the hoop both chances he had to win the game when we were in the BONUS.

This isn’t the first game he’s done this either.

Low basketball IQ across the team and staff.

No motion off the ball. Acuff’s guy literally has his back to him and is watching Dylan. Why not relocate and give Dylan a better outlet than Jeremiah instead of having your best three point shooter just standing there?

Jeremiah’s man is 15 feet off of him collapsing onto Dylan. He has so much space and is just standing there behind the arc.

Refs aren’t going to call a foul in that situation, especially with Harper who typically gets gifted calls with soft contact (sorry, it’s true).

But that’s the exact issue. It’s a predictable play call. How about our coaching staff plays chess in that situation?

Understand they’re thinking Dylan ISO and run some sneaky off ball action to get someone free in the post. Or maybe a back door cut setup for when they’re ball watching Dylan on the opposite side?

I really don’t think that’s high level stuff. That’s just being a HC and understanding the moment, and giving your team a chance to win.

Fantastic.
I was thinking end of regulation. Even if we call a TO there we are putting ball in Harper's hand, where we've already seen multiple air balls this year. We got a wide open shot. Someday, we will have more than one capable shooter.

I agree they should be calling timeout and drawing up a play.

But we’ve seen enough from this staff to know that’s not gonna be their strategy.

We saw the same ending for years with Geo.

I have no problem with letting Dylan keep it but he has to be assertive and drive to the hoop to make a play.

When he wants to get to the hoop, he can get there very easily.

And you never know what the refs will call. Did you see the ND ending last night?

The question was as I remember how does he rank among Big 10 coaches, DEAD LAST and by kind of a lot. He's an embarrassment to Rutgers, and the laughing stock of college basketball fans everywhere, and it will continue. Step down Steve. Oh, but this is a good team.

You sure? Maybe he does live another 1005 years.
