Guards are too small to play an aggressive switching man to man defense
Zone will eliminate the mismatches our small guards can expose us to
We can press then fall back to 1 2 2 or 3 2

Pike needs to start by addressing the slow starts offensively in every single game. We can't be scoring 6-8 points the first 8 minutes of every game. Wolf starting hasn't been working. He also isn't rebounding. If you're playing your backup 5 at the 4, he needs to rebound. Period.

That's the first change I'm looking to see. If Pike goes with the same starters and we finally get off to a fast start I'll gladly eat my words. These next two games are massive though. Just going with the same lineup and hoping it gels doesn't seem ideal to me. We neeeeeed a win. Time to try something new

I was discussing this earlier today. I think there is enough talent to have a strong year, but not if we do not change the game plan.

Stop forcing it to Cliff posting up the first five minutes of the game. I love looking for the alley oop ten seconds in, though.

Cannot start Wolf and Cliff, agreed. Furthermore, it always feels our first half subs are scripted. Three minutes in, sub Gavin and Davis for Wolf and a guard. A few minutes later, sub Wolf back for Cliff. Etc. That's how we end up subbing out the "hot hand" sometimes. Gotta get away from that IMO.

I would press all day until the final buzzer, too.

If we keep trying what we've been doing. I don't expect success.

We can’t rebound in man to man. That will only get worse with a zone.

Without Mawot Mag we aren’t winning more than 15-16 games. Just an opinion so don’t be upset.

Time to start Gavin.
Yeah the training wheels have to come off at this point.

I get 7 games. I get we haven't been great against Illinois and Princeton.

We are 8th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Georgetown scored 60 points in 70 possessions
Boston scored 45 in 67
Bryant 57 in 72
Howard 63 in 71
St. Petes 40 in 66

2 bad ones
Princeton 68 in 62 possessions
Illinois 76 in 70 possessions

Are you hoping for better defensive results?

His training wheel have been off. He has fallen off his bike and been run over 10 times on the defensive end. Pike is trying to win games right now. He feels we have a better chance of winning with him on the bench against a lot of these opponents.

Notice a theme though?
We've sacrificed defense for offense - and the defense failed in the two games against actual teams.

If we sacrifice offense for defense - then it needs to work.

It's not that we lost to Princeton/Illinois.
It's how. We didn't lose a 59-57 slugfest and they happen to hit shots at the end.
Tough luck.

We lost because our defense sucked. The defense that is supposed to justify the limited offensive strategy.

Except we barely block out as it is, play zone and we will be obliterated on the boards.

Thats the theme. But both Illinois and princeton games got close when we went to a defensive lineup

I took a close look at the rebounding for the Illinois game on replay expecting to see lousy boxing out. That wasn’t it though. We were overpowered on strength, athleticism, size and effort. Actually boxed out pretty well.

I saw Illinois play yesterday, They looked great.
Scored almost 100 points and beat a top 10 team

The big guards will give teams fits
