“After meeting with many qualified candidates during a broad search, the best person for the position occupied the office next to mine,” said head coach Steve Pikiell. “Steve Hayn has been a successful head coach at the collegiate and high school levels, while specializing in the development of big men. His skill set and relationships are a perfect fit for our program as we continue our work towards the post-season.”

Most irreplaceable loss this year, or the past five years was Jay Young.

I still think the talent is higher than years past, and that will make up for it. Still, Young was an enormous talent at the D1 level.

I trust Pikiell. I hope the best for Hayn.

There are two staff positions to be filled ,ie,back filling Hayn and the coach that went with Young to Fairfield.

I just hope that Hayn can help build up Carter/Doucoure as well as Young had built up Omoruyi/Gettys. Our depth bigs really need to develop and blossom this year.

He won't. Hes just not as good a coach. Also don't understand why anyone expected meaningful Carter contributions this year. Just seems like a guy to me, kinda how sa was.

Carter was much better offensively than defensively last year. He was #2 in offensive rebounds adjusted for minutes and was ahead of Johnson/Doorson in scoring per 40. He had a nice touch around the basket. Defensively he really struggled - frequently out of position, not rotating over or offering help when he was supposed to, struggling on switches, etc. He did foul less frequently than Doorson, Johnson, and Omoruyi... but a lot of times that was because he really wasn't in position to make a play on the ball.

I think the defensive concepts can be taught (I hope), which might round him out into a better backup.
