2 things stand out from this game. Pikell coached his worst game he held out Myles Johnson way too long and I just don’t get his love affair with Mulcahy he was just horrible in this game he just holds the ball in his hands way too long stopping all offense rhythm kinda like when Omuruyi used to hold the ball
The refs OMG how do you call only 4 fouls on Illinois in the whole second half just absolute BS
AND as I stated during the game when it happened that missed traveling on the Illinois guy that resulted in the three point play would be the difference in the game

keep crying about the refs

RU had a 2 point lead and then had 3 straight empty possessions where Illinois scored on the other end
Bac would have been loyal to England in the revolution. Stop being a loser and keep accepting your spanking the Big Ten gives us. The officials absolutely cost us a great finish to the game that everyone deserved

how so?

There were certainly opportunities for us but a couple calls come to mind that I thought were atrocious.
There was an "and one" against McConnell where he literally went behind the guy and there didn't appear to be any contact to me.
The bailout foul against Mathis with 1 second on the shot clock also looked like zero contact to me.
You can't tell me that doesn't matter in a 3 point game.

I won't go that far.. cost us the game.. I think the refs did give Illinois continuation and FTs where they waved off shots for us.

Big difference was Maths earnng Myles that first foul by not waiting for the pick. Myles reach in at top of the key was bad. And the second pick call late was part Young and part Myles.. it could be more Myles because he hopped after setting it.

Very close game as we all predicted. I do think we are the better team on a neutral court.

no i am calling it exactly like is see it while i see typical sore losers and babies here. People actually trying to say that Myles fouls were not fouls

your post here pretty much cements your lack of credibility here

are you really going back to a call in the first half...how about when Mathis traveled with the ball, how about when Cockburn was held on a play in the first half...we can keep doing this

fact was the game was tied with 2 minutes left and RU had possession you can not ask for more than that

I thought the refs were fine today. They probably let a little too much go at times but I'd much rather see that than a free throw fest that we're bound to lose.

Aside from the difference in continuation fouls, my only gripe was RHJ getting tripped on his drive late. Would have loved to see a replay, but hard to not get a foul call there.

they let alot go both ways...first half both teams just 7 called...I dont think we got our 7th in the 2nd half until under 2 minutes when Illinois drove in and we fouled.

It was a great game. Hard fought. Can’t ask for more. This was a tough matchup. We didn’t have the size advantage and Myles got into foul trouble. Didn’t like Pike’s call for Yeboah at the end. On to the next one.

Rich, yes the officials got us out of sorts early especially because it adversely affected Johnson down low. And I'm not a fan of this crew to begin with, but in this game you can't blame them for this loss. The game turned on what I saw two crucial moments down the stretch: 1)Mulcahy not being able to find Myles, where he panicked a bit and started dribbling too much, and 2) Myles getting that fourth foul, which was a foul btw. Those two isolated moments helped change the course of the game there and had Illinois go up two possessions.

Overall, the game was called good but it was called slightly in Illinois's favor. We had our opportunities to take control and win it and failed. How Bezhenisvili and Cockburn had 0 PFs with both doing moving screens multiple times each never called once and Myles with two questionable fouls and the other 2 Myles fouls were dumb. That walk on the Illinois guy before the 3 pt play was too obvious at the end of the game. Illinois also got a couple of gift "shot" fouls when they were on the floor and a couple of phantom fouls too, where we never got that hence the 19 to 8 FTs difference, only 4 at the end of the game fouling.

Myles second foul was a BS call but I don’t understand why the coaching staff doesn’t work with him on setting proper screens and to add in he comes out way too far on his hedges and causes all kind of problems for our other defenders

Now, this I agree with you on. If you're going to go into the high post and screen you would think he would learn by now to set his feet and stay there and not move. And yes, the second foul was a BS call. But that's where Myles, who is a very smart kid needs to see and understand the officiating crew that's refereeing the game. Myles never got in the groove of this game and that really hurt us.

You're so right. I have to laugh; why complain about not going to the line, we miss the damn free throws anyway.

Yeah, I couldn't believe what I saw... practically right at midcourt, in front of the whole world and no call. Lol! Refs were universally bad, therefore, not the reason we lost this game. Both teams battled terrible calls (and non-calls), but one did just enough to squeak by on their home court.

That first pick call was Mathis fault.. he brought his defender to Myles before Myles had a chance to set. And Mathis had a bad game offensively.. I wonder if he feels pressured for PT by Young.

The reach-in at top of the key was all Myles fault.. eveni he gets all ball there that gets called... He is too big. The late foul on a pick was a little bit him.. spread legs and a little adjustment at the end aka movement.. and a little bit Young not waiting... But Young does not need picks.. so we are back to Myles' fault.

What mattered far more were 16 offensive rebounds and 13 second chance points for Illinois. Cut that in half and RU wins handily.

Yes, and that's why IMO, not having Myles in there a chunk of time really hurt us.

Comments on refs killing us is so tired. It’s lame and weak. Let the game breathe. We played a solid game. We had our chances. It didn’t happen for us today. Nothing to be ashamed of. We competed and we lost. Move on.
Losing on the road in the Big Ten is part of the deal. Happens to even the most talented teams.

Harper slipping under the basket while up 2 was big too, the move was good, some say he was fouled, i would have to see it again..if RU went up 4 there, the game could have been changed

Mulcahy brought the ball back out and no one showed up to help him.. so he went back down with it.. it should have worked.. lucky hands by Illinois big man.

I think he got pushed in back and assumed the pusher would be there to lean into.. but the pusher kept moving and Harper leaned into air. Should that push have been called? Maybe.. but the way that game was called the answer is no... Maybe seeing the end result you whistle it late as a makeup.. but they let it go. Just bad luck.

Maybe the oddest no call was with 4 seconds left and McConnell landing on the ballhandler. I think Mulcahy was close enough to foul but assumed it was going to be called.

So you can call it like you see it, but if others call it like they see it they are whiners and crybabies? Hmm

Refs had nothing to do with the result. Illinois is good -very good. And they're well coached. Keys to the game--Rutgers just couldn't keep Illinois off the defensive and offensive boards in the second half and Myles being called for stupid fouls resulted in limited minutes. Rutgers played fine defense but no one shot well with the exception of Young. Had Myles had more floor time Rutgers could have used his offense and rebounding. This was a game where Geo's absence was noted.
