Pikell/Refs

Refs had nothing to do with the result. Keys to the game--Rutgers just couldn't keep Illinois off the defensive and offensive boards in the second half and Myles being called for stupid fouls resulted in limited minutes. Rutgers played fine defense but no one shot well with the exception of Young. Had Myles had more floor time Rutgers could have used his offense and rebounding. This was a game where Geo's absence was noted.

I’m an Illinois fan and I’ve said on here from day one that Rutgers is good even when some other Big Ten fans were overlooking you.

The defenses on both sides were physical and tough. Illinois is the first team in the country this year to shoot under 30% from the field, under 20% from three, score under 60 points and win. It was like pulling teeth today. Wouldn’t want to have to try that again.

I hope both teams shoot the ball a lot better when we play again. More fun to watch. Lol. You’ll have Baker back and hopefully Feliz will be healthier. Should be another good game.

Second time this year that Kofi has had 17 rebounds. He’s been a revelation here.

FT's & Illini offensive boards were the difference. I've posted earlier that missed Ft's were going to cost us.

The overwhelming majority of the foul disparity was self-inflicted on our part but if I'm Pike I'm sending tape of Giorgi clearing out for the guard.

Thought the 3pt play by Giorgi could either have been called a foul on the floor or perhaps a travel. Not a shooting foul. Don't get me started on the foul with 1 on the shot clock, no contact.

One call on Harper looked bad.

Other than those, a big part of the game was Myles with one stupid foul and two poorly executed screens that resulted in reasonable moving screen calls.
