To cry to the NCAA officials. It was obvious the the refs won this game for Purdue. How can you be down only 4 pts to the best team in the B1G and then all of a sudden be down 20 without help from the refs? Oh the travesty.

Refs or not there is no way we were winning this game. But the refereeing was atrocious in the second half. For example, when they called Mike Williams for the fioul when Haas clearly went over his back, that's all you need to know. It is unfair and has to be demoralizing for the team.
Sarcasm or not, It was amazing to hear the Big Ten announcers take our side on so many bad calls in the second half. The game was not fairly called.
Rutgers lost the game because the NCAA allowed Purdue to have a 7'2'' player who can shoot foul shots and dunk the ball and also intimidate the entire Rutgers team.

You know when even the Big Ten Network announcers, who are never short to take a nice shot at Rutgers, we're talking all night about the officiating. It was ridiculous. No free throws until 2:50 left in the game? Are you kidding me? That's why the top teams in the Big Ten can never finish the deal in the Final Four. When the officiating is not ridiculously in their favor, they can't win magically.
Never mind their elite big guys, it's amazing that Purdue has five guys that shoot more than 40% from three-point range. We don't have a single player who can shoot it that well. So in no way am I arguing that the refs won the game. But it would be nice to get a fair whistle.
The spread was 18 & 1/2 points and Purdue won by 29. Maybe the refs bet Purdue and wanted to cover the spread!

I don't expect to win these games. At this point, I just want to see the team play with intensity and intelligence. There were a few stretches of sloppy play, but for the most part we played as well as I would have expected.

We lost by 19 and it is true we didn't get a foul shot until under 3 minutes were left. There is no way we would win this game but we did get fouled several times when shooting the ball with no call. Haas was definitely over the back of Williams and Haas got the foul shots. That was a complete joke. We just have to continually get a few better players. I think we are 2 years away from being considerably better. I hope we can improve by next year but we need a few big guys who can really score and play defense. I trust out coaches will bring in a few more players for next season. I hope we can at least one or two more games to get to at least 15 wins. 16 is looking more difficult every day. I am still hoping for the CBI if we get to at least 15 wins.
I love the job Pikiell is doing with this team. But this game I would have loved to see a little more anger out of him. Sanders get hit in the face and no call. Williams with the foul on Haas. 3 whole foul shots in the game? Are you kidding me? I'm not asking for a Mike Rice tirade, but still......
Yea don't understand the self-righteous people who attack anyone who says anything about officiating ... no one is saying it is the sole reason we lost. But just because we aren't very good overall means that the refs can just let our guys get slapped in the face and whacked and nothing called? While we breath on the other team and it's a foul causing our guys to have to change the way they play the game as to avoid sitting on the bench and not playing it at all? Come on. There are many reasons we lost. Bad FG shooting. Turnovers. Leaving guys open for 3. Bad officiating. All contributed to points for the other team and not for us. To win games we need something to be done to change ALL OF THOSE factors.

Didn't get to watch the game but nothing will ever come close to the officiating in the old Big East. I think we forget just how bad it was. The Georgetown game back in 2012ish when Gtown won on something like 15% shooting. The refs were calling phantom fouls on every possession. Heck I think we lost on an away from the ball foul that put gtown at the line on the last possession. We had a 3 game stretch one year where I believe Notre Dame, Pitt, and I think St. John's shot around 50-60 more free throws than us over a three game span. The tops teams in the B1G get calls, but the old Big East was horrendous. Louisville would press all game, but somehow never committed any fouls.
Purdue had way more talented shooters but color me unimpressed with the Haas guy with his overalll basketball ability. Has a nice touch for a bball player his size but he was giving out three and nine o'clock elbows left and right to get position or create space. Refs swallowed whistles. Against an athletic scoring big that dude would foul out in 5 mins. Ethan Happ of Wis would eat him alive and don't even mention him playing in the NBA.
Our guys played their hearts out but sub 30 point halves won't cut it against teams that can score from anywhere on the court. And yeah I agree those refs sucked.

"Ethan Happ of Wis would eat him alive" There is no "would." You already have a sample. Haas is 3-0 against Happ/Wisconsin. Earlier this year Happ had 17pts on 7-16 and 5 boards in 32 minutes, Haas had 13 on 4-6 and 5 boards in only 18 minutes. Watch the game and Happ had a lot of trouble getting off quality shots.
This is true and Happ had considerably more trouble with Haas than anyone else that guarded him.
That said, I did think Rutgers got the short end of the officiating tonight. I don't think it's intentional or targeted though. We've had some games the officiating seemed to be in favor of our opponent. Some others where it was just very bad in general. It's not often we get a noticeable benefit from it like we did tonight.
Thank you for pointing out. Have not watched nor do I intend to but from what I saw from yesterday Haas has some agility and touch but he spends the bulk of his time under or two feet from the rim barreling over defenders. He was not challenged on the defensive side by any RU big. You guys have a bunch of shooters though. Good luck the rest of the way.

I watched the game and don't blame the refs for the outcome. If not for Nigel hitting shots from all over the margin of defeat could have been 40.
We simply don't have the talent to upset a team like Purdue, especially on the road. RU does not have a big man that can compete with a Swanigan or Haas. Hopefully Pike can bring in that type of player in the next few years.
Sanders gets whacked in the face and no call but they'll call him for a charge in a heartbeat. Haas all over Williams and a foul on Williams? Gettys playing smart D against Haas and a foul on Gettys? No foul shots until less than three minutes left in the game. Ridiculous!

Sure the refs missed a few calls, but they didn't win the game for Purdue. When Pike gets Big Ten caliber players in here, we'll win our share of games, refs or no refs. Personally I thought Big East refs were way worse than Big Ten refs have been. (See Rutgers vs St Johns Big East Tournament).
If Haas stays and he should he'll be a 1st Rd pick next year.

Blaming the referees is a easy cop out to deflect criticism of the teams ongoing inability to score.When you don't win there are a multitude of factors explaining the reasons why.In Rutgers case it starts and ends with the lack of talent .Until that problem area is solved the lame excuses will continue and the referees will be a favorite target.
