Tend to think that Flood is not a fan of relentlessly stomping on an inferior opponent - so doubt that a humiliating 50+ point margin would be intentionally pursued.
Figure that the goal will be to demonstrate total dominance in the fundamentals & to verify that all aspects are functioning on offense & defense - but without putting every trick / capability on full display for competitive analysis.

True...but I think we look good in first half, dominating for a 31-0 lead. After that, we get 10 in the 3rd, and 7 in the 4th....

30 something points in the first half, 2nd team gets some run in the 2nd half and adds a score or 2. Maybe 2nd team D gives up a score

RU appears to be deeper at QB and RB this year than in any other year I can remember. The second unit also includes Carroo for this game. Flood will probably want to get them quality looks, so I expect the upcoming 2nd half to be a little more aggressive than in previous seasons. I think we'll see 27 -- 35 points scored by the 1st unit in the first half and 14 -- 17 scored by the second unit in the 3rd quarter.

This game scares me. I am always scared of games where we have to win by over 30 points.

Prediction - Rettig puts on a methodical & impressive performance - knowing that in this match for starting honors he has serendipitously ended up in the position of "Advantage Mr. Rettig" - and knowing he has to hold serve & with a bit of flourish...

If we were a passing first team like Wash. St. I would think that you could control the lop sided score by going to the running game which eats up the clock and gives the needed practice. But, we are a running offense and if they simply cannot stop us, this could really get ugly early. This includes clearing the bench of running backs since we found out last year that we have a lot of them and they can run!
I am really looking forward to the end of these schools. It is a lot different if you play a lousy Div. 1 school instead. Then it is not considered nearly as bad if the score becomes what this game may well become.

mixed feelings about this game - there is something good about continuing the tradition of scheduling one of the "Historically black colleges and universities" (HBCUs) the visibility, the revenue produced, the on field experience are positive for Norfolk State and recognition of the value of these institutions is important. However, they are a "Football Championship Subdivision" (FCS) school - so on paper there is an automatic mis-match ...(FBS teams are allowed a maximum of 85 scholarships per year; FCS teams are limited to 63) - and yet - they could get lucky & knock you off.
It ends up a bit like boxing your younger cousin - you are a big jerk if you beat the pulp out of him - and nobody is impressed....(but the kid is really tough, knows a thing or two & could hurt you) - but if he beats you - you look absolutely totally incompetent.

Rettig does Ok, in the first half, without Carroo, then Laviano throws 3 TD passes to Carroo,
Laviano gets the credit then gets starting job for 3 years. Rettig leaves team.

Close to 7% RU fans think we are going to lose this game. What do they know that others don't?

Self-loathing ?
Seriously, the depth we have at running back should mean that our O continues to be productive even after we've removed our first and second back.

I don't think the staff is interested in running up the score and I doubt they will want to show the offense that will be used against Penn State. I imagine we will mostly see our offensive line and running backs doing their thing. I wouldn't be worried or surprised if we won by only 21 points but I predict 0-42.

Goals are to get the offensive line working well together, to see how James' health is, to see if Rettig can keep the mistakes down and see how he can run the offense. And the main goal to earn a win.

Who the hell are the 8 people who voted we lose? This board really is loaded with trolls.

My guess:

First Quarter
RU - 21 (two by a RB, one by QB)
NSU - 0

Second Quarter
RU - 35 (another RB TD, one by QB* .. 50/50 that a TD is by Defense or special teams)
NSU - 0

Third/Fourth Quarters
RU - 42 (second-string/backup TD)
NSU - 3

All of this is predicated on what we know of the 1st-half suspensions at this time and, of course, not knowing anything about NSU's team.
