Shot a very solid number hus freshman year at Temple, it pays to look beyond the 3 point %.Poor 3 pt shooter…we have enough of them
This . Gotta take what you can get ZBelieve those numbers were at Temple but would nonetheless be about as good of an add as we could hope for this late in the game
...then you're interested!Would need a waiver for second transfer?
Like the assist numbers and has some size. If he plays good D then I'm interested
If he could okay this year then it would be a good/great addition.
Nj dot com reported most waivers are not being granted.
And who has significantly improved their shooting under this staff? Very few kids. With increased defensive effort they are more likely to get worse.Shot a very solid number hus freshman year at Temple, it pays to look beyond the 3 point %.
11-32 as a freshman
12-52 as a sophomore
All around numbers are B grade numbers.....(2 pt, rebounds, assists, steals etc)
FT % in mid 60s is eh, but all I know is RU and this staff figures out a path and ways to maximize the positive aspects of almost every player that played major minutes (15+ minutes or more).
If you can get Williams for 2 years, it seems like a low risk item IMO.

He’s an excellent defender. Sorry Illinois couldn’t take him. However:Just to clarify:
He didn’t play last year, his first year at Iowa State due to an injury (Achilles I believe). His only collegiate basketball experience consists of 2 years at Temple.
With a redshirt last year, he has 3 years of eligibility remaining.
Illini folks are alluding that he and the school decided to “mutually” part as they are expecting another addition (Paul?) and need the schollie as they were full with him on board. His commitment was never officially announced by the Illini.
All that said, would be happy to add him for next season, and if he develops, having him for a second or third year could add valuable depth. Hopefully, regardless of where he goes, his injury has healed up and he’s back to his prior form.
$Good enough to play 31+ mpg for a tourney team from the B-12. But why is he looking to transfer again?
This is it. This is the #1 thing I think of when I watch Pike's teams play.all I know is RU and this staff figures out a path and ways to maximize the positive aspects of almost every player that played major minutes (15+ minutes or more).
Yup - and the low FT% seems connected to shooting potential too - not always, but frequentlyAnd who has significantly improved their shooting under this staff? Very few kids. With increased defensive effort they are more likely to get worse.
Scraps
Agree. I just hope he is eligible to play next year if he commits. I don't think it makes sense to take him unless that's the case. Not sure what you're expecting when the team captain announces transfer intentions after the portal closes leaving limited options such as grad transfer or transfer waivers. I look at a kid like this as a player who will bring upgrades in the multiples as a replacement for Miller. Meaning he can likely come in and give a solid 10-15 mins running the point behind Fernandez and allow Simpson to play more at the 2.

You seem knowledgeable. Solid player analysis.Exactly. Scraps.
And apparently in some cases it takes at least 2 seasons for a player to get back to his pre-injury ability after an achilles tear, assuming that he ruptured it, if he gets back to his elite level at all... Admittedly the study linked below was limited...I listened to a podcast about him and it sounds like he still might not be 100% healthy after missing all of last year with an achillies injury. Not a great shooter but has some size. Better than nothing I suppose.
No doubt there’s risk but at this point we have to fill out the roster.
Shooting is the hardest thing to improve . . . many players never improve meaningfully. And who has significantly improved their shooting under this staff? Very few kids. With increased defensive effort they are more likely to get worse.
I’m not saying it’s easy to improve shooting but it’s an untrue statement that it’s the hardest thing to improve. I think it’s much harder actually to improve ball handling and rebounding than wide open shooting ability like free throw shooting, for example.Shooting is the hardest thing to improve . . . many players never improve meaningfully.
Oh how the tablesThere was smoke about him being involved in the Iowa State gambling scandal
