Portal Watch - Who Has Rutgers contacted

This guy was highly inefficient at Coppin State. If you're the only high major on a player you really REALLY better know something everyone else doesn't.
I highly doubt he’s being recruited as any significant piece. Looks to me like a guy who would do what some hoped Miller would do, come in for some backup minutes as mainly a defender. 2 time all conference defender and averaging 2.2 steals per game on his career.

We need a significant upgrade over Jalen Miller, not a guy who is maybe 5% better.

Ru looking for power forward who can backup a center. Has nothing to do with Cliff as they think he is returning. Also will look for combo guard someone line Primo Spears or Nick Timberlake. They are looking at several others as well as several
Other fours.
Spears does not seem like a Pike guy
Plus can he transfer? He did one year at Duquesne then one year at Georgetown
Declared for NBA draft with intff rd ntvyo transfer.
Was at 3 high schools

But aren’t sure it’s 5% and not 4.5? 7.3? Lmao. Let Pike be Pike. You see what he’s doing with some success. He knows what he’s doing.
You are in a thread specifically dedicated to discussing players in the portal we have contacted. What are you expecting exactly?

I don’t think Jalen Miller would be an all-conference player at any level of D1 at the moment, unlike this kid. I’m not saying he’s definitely a worthwhile pickup, but if it’s indeed to come in and be an 9th/10th man it’s fine by me

This kid has red flags to me. He apparently was super hyped when he “committed” to us and then was gone just as quickly. Who knows if it was him or us who initiated the departure. I seem to remember somehow thinking there was a perception he could do better than us. A couple of bigger schools fell through and he wound up at BYU. He redshirted due to injuries and never played and now has transferred out due to his perceived lack of a path to playing time. BYU is certainly a respectable program but If he can’t play at BYU…hard pass.

I will say if we were adding hypothetical depth I’d rather take a flyer on someone with high potential rather than an average starter from a terrible league. Like let’s say Trey Patterson entered the portal. Was bad at Nova, but he was used a s a center for whatever reason. I can’t really believe a 6’9 fluid athlete is all of a sudden terrible at basketball. If you gave him the chance to make his own plays and some actual confidence, I’d bet he at the very least could be Oskar palmquist level.

I’m pretty sure you don’t have to worry about him coming here . . .

I would rather look for potential in a high school athlete. A transfer should have already proved they can play at this level.

I'm sure someone got in Braeden Moore's ear about his Rutgers commitment... He reopened his recruitment at the same time he announced that he was enrolling at Kanye West's fledgling Donda Academy in California for his senior season.

Unless there is a player who reclassifies from 2024 to 2023, there are no high school guys left.

I guess you would not have taken Spencer since he had not proven he could play at this level.

No, you misunderstood. Spencer did prove it. He played many games vs high level competition. I don’t want a guy who sat on the bench for a high level team but showed potential in high school. You must prove it as a transfer at your level.

You can have success with both. Bryce Hopkins was first team All Big East after riding the bench for Kentucky.

Reynolds is polished offensively, although not sure he can spin to his left. No idea about his defense.

Hugely is a monster, big and fast. A little like Wes Unseld.
Whether that's still true now may depend on if he's 100% healthy... In his limited games this season before he decided to sit out he wasn't quite able to duplicate his pre-knee injury performances of 2021-2022.. I think it still remains to be seen if he'll regain all the ability he had then or recover 100% from the injury.. But who knows.. Maybe he's already back to 100% now after sitting out the past few months...But if not, hopefully he'll be able to get back to 100% soon or at least be a valuable and productive member of the team wherever he chooses to play.

There ls no way we’re actively recruiting this kid. There’s a difference between one of our assistants placing a token call and Pike boarding an airport to visit a guy at his house to make pitch.

He played 35.4 mpg (more than Caleb and Paul played here). He’s not looking go from that to a Jalen Miller bench role. It’s not a good fit at all. I’ve always been pro defense oriented players but 54% from charity on the season means this kid can’t shoot to save bricks. For a guard, that’s truly horrible.

So many names being thrown around. Our coaches are picky not going to take just anyone with a few decent numbers

Having that many schools contact you at once must make your head spin.

Imagine talking two 20 recruiters for Job interviews in a few days time.

I’m guessing most of these schools/coaches are quickly forgotten/blend together.
