So I am shooting the breeze at yesterdays Rutgers Baseball win over Lafayette and I find out the guy next to me is a baseball scout. He seems very impressed with our baseball staff and said Rutgers Baseball is on the edge of turning into a Top 25 program. Thought we could all use some good comments considering the state of our basketball programs.

With talent like Harris that is a possibility. Nice to see a Northern team do well in baseball. Go RU.

Just wondering, what are some historical (as of within the past 10 years) good northern area teams? I feel like UCONN had some good seasons.

St Johns used to be a power (John Franco pitched there). Seton Hall (Mo Vaughn played there) was strong in the 80s as was the University of Maine.

Prior to Stony Brook in 2012 the last team from the Northeast to make the CWS was Maine in 1986. Looking at the Big10, prior to Indiana in 2013 you have to go back to Michigan in 1984. Nebraska has made it a number of times since 2000 but only as a member of the Big12.

UConn, St John's, and SHU had very good teams in the 70's-80's. It would seem the teams in the NE don't have the rosters to get past the traditional powers in the regionals and super regionals.

Blowing smoke up your butt. Here is the current Top-25 teams. There isn't a Big Ten and northeast team on the list.

Without a Big Ten team on the list and prognosticators having us pegged as last in the Big Ten, I think you need more details from the gentleman and he needs to get out to more games.

Mich St is currently 6-0 but hasn't played anyone of note yet.

The problem may be that the teams from the North are at a huge disadvantage early in the year when these intersectional games are played. It may be a bit more even if they played southern and far western teams in May. Realistically though warm weather schools are much more appealing and will always get a much greater number of prospects.

Seton Hall way back when had very good teams: Mo Vaughn, Craig Biggio, John Valentine, Charlie Puleo, Rick Cerone were some of the star players.

Twister,
I should have been more specific. He wasn't saying this season. He was referring to the future of the program--new indoor facility, better recruiting, talking about installing lights, etc.

If Rutgers baseball makes Top-25 in baseball on some kind of sustained basis in our life times, you are much younger than me. Rutgers baseball RPI ranking in 2015 was 177. Rutgers coaching staff is all-Rutgers at this point. Hardly a formula for success. Especially when it comes to recruiting outside the area and national reach and stature. When Rutgers starts finishing above .500 in the Big Ten and lands players and staff on national teams and in the Cape Cod league, it will be a sign of progress. 7-17 in Big Ten last year.
