For anyone who has been round he RAC of late, is there any noticeable work started; holes in the ground, etc?

Underground utility work is being or has been done. Hobbs stated recently that real construction will start around the end of August/beginning of September.

Agree. The football practice facility & new weightroom is important and all and glad we got those done as quick as they did.. but this project being ready ASAP and showing progress ASAP is critical.

They hope to be "out of the ground" by January...

@Bkin 118 does this project still include a parking deck? I ask because if the summer of 2019 completion date includes the parking structure, is it possible that the Practice Facility part would be completed sooner with the parking deck coming later?

The facility is on top of the deck I believe.

I believe that there is a deadline to have the parking deck completed in order to get the tax credit money. Not sure what the deadline is but it will be met even if Hobbs & Pike have to use their credit cards to pay the contractor.

I believe that they feel like everything is on schedule at this point...No reason for alarm just yet

I can't seem to find the floor plans online anymore - I seem to remember it being primarily a parking deck, with the top floor and all the corners of the building designated as practice or office space.

I can assure you they are not placing a 4 story practice facility on top of a 555 car parking deck. The parking deck is going to be adjacent to the practice facility both attached. I believe they will be having a sky bridge connecting the practice facility to the RAC. The parking deck was added because they are planning on building a Hotel/Convention center on Livingston.

I thought that the parking deck was bundled with the practice facility to take advantage of the tax credits from the state. If I remember from the drawings, though, it wasn't 4 stories of practice facility on top of a parking deck.... it was a 4 story structure, the top story was all practice facility, and parts of the other three stories were also to be used for practice facility. I don't remember it being a practice structure next to a parking deck, but I might be badly misremembering.

There was a slideshow out there that had drawings, but I can't seem to find it online anymore.

From the drawings I saw. One level is for the Health center(volleyball got kicked out). One floor for basketball men's and womens. Then one floor gymnastics and top floor is going to be wrestling. The parking structure is going to be 4 story's tall. The practice facility is going to be 4 story's tall. We are not building an 8 story building. The tax credits had nothing to do with the parking deck. The original plans didn't call for one. It was quickly added. The added $26 mil. is for the parking deck, with those costs being paid for by parking.

You are correct, the reason we were able to qualify for the $25M tax credit was to have an underground garage.

I must be misremembering.

Do you have a link to the plans? I know they were online at one point, I think around the time the RWJ center was announced.

I thought that there was a tax credit that hinged on our facility being a "mixed used parking project", and that the parking garage was added to capitalize on that. I might be completely off base, though.

Edit: Found a link about the parking thing from Apr 2015 (warning: nj.com)

http://www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball...ficials_expected_to_present_plan_for_bas.html

"The financial terms haven't been determined, but state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union), who has been an influential figure in the push to upgrade the Rutgers athletics facilities, said a portion of the total cost for a facilities upgrade could be covered by Economic Redevelopment and Growth (ERG) tax credits that are available for developing mixed-use parking projects.

That legislation, which Lesniak is expected to sponsor in the coming months, is expected to be modeled after a bill introduced by Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester) and state Sen. Nellie Pou (D-Paterson) last October, which permits municipalities to receive tax credits under the ERG grant program for certain mixed-use parking projects in Garden State Growth Zones and urban hubs.

Lesniak said his legislation would target the towns and cities with state-research institutions, and could be used to support a mixed-use parking facility for the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, the new basketball facility at NJIT in Newark and the basketball practice facility at Rutgers."

I went to the Rfund website and they have drawings there.(sorry don't know how to post link). You are correct with the tax credits I was wrong apparently. I thought we secured those credits before the parking deck was added. Seems it was the other way around.

However, the parking deck will be attached to the practice facility. It's 4 stories high as is the practice facility. The parking deck will hold 555 cars. There is no way that is going underground or that the practice facility will be 8 stories high. It will be adjacent to the practice facility with a sky bridge to the RAC.

Finally found the floorplan I was looking for:

https://d81ldo19jx3e0.cloudfront.ne...complex/AD_Naming_One-Pgr_Multisport-5-10.pdf

In those drawings, the 1st-3rd levels have practice facilities adjacent to parking on each level, and on the 4th level, it's all practice facility. Was misremembering the "corners" thing.... floors 1-3 are split between parking/athletics, and floor 4 is all athletics.
So it's a 3 story parking deck and 4 story facility. The article I read said 4 story parking deck. Anyhow we got that settled. They are still putting in the sky bridge I hope.

Any subterranean parking of any real size is lot of digging. Not surprised above ground structure hasn't started yet.

Yup. It looks like the 4th floor basketball practice facility is much larger than the lower practice floors so it's it's half on top of the adjacent parking deck and half on top of the other practice facilities.

Because that's what we do.

I believe those plans are outdated. They are from before RWJ Barnabas secured naming rights, and as part of those rights, the building was redesigned to include a sports medicine center.

I think you are right, the B1G build site only shows renderings now and no floor plans.

Yes, definitely out of date - especially given how hard it is was to find online. Best I can tell, this was a document released on October 18th, a couple weeks before the RWJ announcement on November 1st. I'm sure there have been changes since then, though there's no way of knowing how significant they'll be until more floor plans get released.

Maybe they redesigned it and we'll finally get that long awaited Death Star.:)

Good line, but I would seriously worry about filling out a credit card application and listing as my occupation "Rutgers men's basketball coach." Hopefully, the automatons in the office just look at his salary and don't know crap about recent basketball history.
