With the announcement that the IVY League will get automatic entry into the FCS playoffs starting in 2025, perfect time to set up an annual trophy game with them. The Birthplace or something like that.

I doubt they'll go for it: they're the ones who backed out of our original rivalry in the 70's.

If Rutgers needs to win an annual trophy. Princeton is a real rival in every sport but football (and possibly hoops in the future). In football, Princeton would win that about as often as Northern Ilinois beats Notre Dame.

Zero chance that they would play us in football. Zero. They want nothing to do with the whole Birthplace thing. They don't care unlike many of our fans.
I thought they were prepared to play us for the 150 anniversary and it was Rutgers that backed out. No?

we should play them and Monmouth every year

it's foolish not to on so many levels

Maybe not every, a rotation is not a bad idea.

But for every other sport, yes. Every year. All the time.

Same for any other D1 NJ school.

Good OOC games across the board.

yes complete agreement with you here
Shoe and Princeton fine with a home and home for MBB. But for every other NJ MBB D1 school, if they want to play it’s at the RAC.

The other sports I’m not so hung up on playing at their place on occasion.

They still aren’t a scholarship school so beating them doesn’t count towards bowl
Which is why in Football I’m not so connected to the idea.

But a win still doesn't count for towards making a bowl game
Oh.. they want to play in the FCS... FCS... I see my error. I thought I saw someone mention CFP and was wonder how they could become CFP eligible while playing an Ivie wouldn't count.

my bad.

IFCS has a limit of 63 schollies now.. with some oddities regarding a settlement of a lawsuit about player pay.. etc..

So, does this mean an Ivy could have more than 63 players who have financial need scholarships on the team and compete against teams that have limits to schollies? That does not seem right. The other schools should get together on this and say, hey, anyone playing football that has any kind of scholarship counts as an athletic schollie.

Financial need is done at a lot of schools not just Ivy League schools!

What school does not have need based scholarships for the entire student body?

If a baseball player has a scholarship and plays football also.. it counts against football, right? To make sure football doesn't get around schollie limits and competition is fair. So while a school might think that baseball player can contribute, football has to consider the cost of a scholarship could on him.

So, what I am saying is related to competition between schools that have to be within limits and the Ivies who now want to compete with them for FCS spots.

What I said had nothing to do with students having a need. It has to do with fairness in how teams get and use players.

But I guess it doesn't matter since nothing is fair anyway... especially with NIL.

A financial needs scholarship isn't a sports scholarship. You are way off base here. Most Ivy and smaller schools financial scholarships do require them to play any sports at all!

if you think athletes don't get scholies there... hmm.. I bet they gonna get NIL too. Otherwise why bother with teh change to CFP eligibility?
Don’t get aid, yes. Is it considered athletic scholarships. Nope. And since it’s not a win against them doesn’t count towards bowl eligibility.

It’s hard to explain because I don’t think you understand how any of this stuff works or even how it’s worded. At the D1A Football and basketball offer full scholarships. Period. There is no partial scholarships. On then the hand, because of limited scholarship numbers Olympic sports survivor by offering mostly partial scholarships. At lower D levels some conferences allow so thing called stacking. That’s where they combine academic and athletic money. At the Ivy level Ira supposed to be need based. They use a very strict formula with each school having varying metrics. For example, Brown considers the equity in your home when looking at aid. Harvard does not. At the D3 level they throw money at athletes like crazy. Many kids get muck better D3 packages then they do with smaller D1 programs

are you missing the word NOT in there somewhere?

I understand what you are saying. I am saying something else. Not about what IS. About what should be.

Do you think it is fair that an Ivy can choose to admit certain applicants, give them a financial needs scholarship, because they know they will play sports? So they care if they decide later to quit the team? No. Because they can just do it again.

Whatever schools at various levels do now.. the Ivies have been outside of that, so if they masked athletic scholarships as need based, so could all the other Ivies with which they compete. But now.. they want to be part of FCS and I think their recruiting and scholarship activities need a good going-over.

Here's Harvard team photo.. I count 12 in the first row and 9 rows. That's 118. How many have "need" schollies? Do they have an unfair advantage on other FCS programs because they take athletes and give them need scholarships because they can play football?

You really don't understand at all. Have a great day.

explain that sentence... it is what you intended?
Yes there should have been a "not" there but what you're posting is just nonsense. You are attacking the IVY when it's already being done at many schools as long as the person qualifies for the financial scholarships.

They get the same aid package they would get if they played intramural football for their dorm. 55% of Harvard students get financial aid. 25%, or slightly less than half of that, get full rides.

but those other schools also have athletic scholarship counts to consider and, somehow, the Ivies do not. But as I said.. NIL throws this all into a does-it-matter-anymore realm. Everything being done with athletic or need -based schollies can be done with NIL with no limits.. so it was a moot point.

Ivies don't allow NIL money, at least for now.
