to RU about job. Nothing more at this point. Source in athletic department. Anyone hearing anything similar?

I'm not in any of those loops, but he's the guy Rutgers should be going after the hardest. I don't know if they can afford him (I'm skeptical of the "money won't be an issue claim"), but if they can, I think he's got the best chance of succeeding there.

Huh? Leave Miss State for Rutgers?

Leave getting any kid you want, fully funded for Rutgers?

My 1st choice too. His current employer might not be too happy now.

Source did not say that Mullen is serious or not. No word on that. As to how the source heard this, I'm not sure. But, FB people know FB people and they talk... a lot.

"Money won't be an issue" and unlimited funds are two different things. If someone wants $4+ million a year, they're not coming here nor would they be going to a majority of P5 programs. At least that's how I view it.

I'm sure Mullen would listen. Maybe just to get himself another extension. But I don't see him taking it. If we pull off a miracle and come up with $5 mil a year to get him, that will put a ton of pressure on him to win right away. Fans will have unrealistic expectations based on his salary.

One thing is clear with Dan Mullen - he wants out of Starkville, Mississippi and I don't blame him. Obviously he gets paid well, but my God think of what its like living in that area on a daily basis when you grew up in the Northeast.

That said, I don't think we have a chance in hell in pulling that off.

Mullen running around talking to a bunch of schools while under contract with a school. That guy wants out of Miss St. Big time.

GO RU

You nailed it if he came here morons on this board will be calling for his head before his first season is over.

Good to see that RU is at least making an effort. This is what I'm talking about when I said go poach another P5 coach. No Golden please.

So let me get this straight. A Penn State person is saying Rutgers will talk to Mullen?
How the hell would he know this?

Because he doesn't. The athletic department is not going to tell Joe Schmoe professor who is interviewing for jobs at RU or even PSU for that matter.

I think he makes up conversations in his head and then posts them here.

Follow the coaching scoop.com for latest rumblings. Right now they're saying that UVA has made it clear they do not want assistants , they want head coaching experience only. Schiano is an option (don't know his interest level).

ImBadRu is a PSU fan.
No, I believe he is an RU fan, I just don't believe his stories. He's supposedly a professor but the football players confide in him and now he knows that a coach st MissSt is willing to listen to RU?!? The b.s. Meter is in 100. But since he seems to annoy RU fans I'm not sure what his motive is

Does have some north eastern roots.
Coaching career (HC unless noted)
1994–1995 Wagner (WR)
1996–1997 Columbia (WR)
1998 Syracuse (GA)

1999–2000 Notre Dame (GA)
2001–2002 Bowling Green (QB)
2003–2004 Utah (QB)
2005–2008 Florida (OC/QB)
2009–present Mississippi State
He was born in Pennsylvania, grew up in New Hampshire, went to college on PA. I think his parents still live in NH. And I think his sister lives in Manhattan. It's why we have a shot.

.

No, but AGENTS and AGENCIES do talk, and word gets around rather quickly, how the hell do you think word got out about Ash, Golden, etc?? To think that someone at one school can't hear something, that is taking place at another school, in this day and age, is silly.

To clarify, I have significant contact with FB and all athletics at PSU, but not in my role with PSU. My contacts are with them in another professional capacity. My source was clear in saying he does not know first hand, but what he had heard. I'm not making much of it. I also think Mullen wants out of that cow pasture, but RU may not be IT for him.

Well its plausible. Mullen is a Philly kid that worked at Wagner as a GA. I'm sure he'd love to move back near home close to his family.

Why do people continue to insist on giving the OP a hard time? He's an RU fan who happens to work at State Penn, so what, doesn't mean he's lying to us and, in the past, has actually given us good info from time-to-time.
Probably because he insists on all his posts starting with PSU.......
Can't believe people allow him to continue to troll them

Mullen is and has been target #1, so its not like this rumor is from out of nowhere. Whether its true or not, we are clearly expressin ginterest, which may or may not be reciprocated. He has a "relationship" with RU to the extent Julie tried to hire him in 2013, and we were apparently close to a deal. He wants to leave Miss St. It makes perfect sense. Its just a matter of whether they have paid him so much that he feels he has to stay. This is one case, though, where I think if you match his pay, he is gone.

Some others ITT nailed it IMO. There has been smoke around HC opening in CFB both this year and last. It appears he really wants out of Starkville.

It sounds like he is unhappy there and it also sounds like Miss State fans are getting tired of his wondering eyes.... He has has to be our number 1 choice. Make it happen Hobbs!

Since when does Miss State get any kid they want? Mullen has made it painfully clear he wants to leave Miss St. That much is obvious. He is just waiting for the right fit to come along.

It is a terrible place to live, a very difficult place for a coach to be successful at, and the fans have crazy unrealistic expectations. He knows there is no reason to stick around there. The only problem is that they have now thrown so much money at him, I'm sure its very difficult to leave.

You seem to think very lowly of Rutgers.

Our Fans will have unrealistic expectations regardless of who the coach is .

He still has strong connections to NH and gets good press in newspapers. A few years ago I ran into a bunch his buddies at the airport in Baltimore who were on their way back from one of his games. Said they went down a couple of times a season. It sure would be easier for family and buddies if he were coaching closer to home!
