PSU contact hearing Mullen has or will talk

For what it's worth, none of the usual media outlets are reporting anything about him and Rutgers. So I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

I don't want to get too excited for a big name to come here and we end up with same type of HC that USC, UGA, and UMD, all got, aka an OC or DC, and end up disappointed even though those schools have much bigger budgets than us.

I know this will fall in deaf ears but lets all try to stay level headed here.
So what if the media isn't reporting anything about it? They had no idea about Hobbs last Friday. It's called behind the scenes

On the flip side - if people on this board are hearing stuff, then the media should be too.

The media had no idea about Hobbs, but no one on this board did either, I dont think. But they did start to hint that Hermann and Flood might be out a couple days before it happened.

So basically - if the media isnt reporting it, then there is no particular reason to trust the board either. If its so behind the scenes that guys who's job depends on sniffing this stuff out cant get it - its unlikely to really be trickling out to random guys at PSU either.

I'm sure Mullen would listen. Maybe just to get himself another extension. But I don't see him taking it. If we pull off a miracle and come up with $5 mil a year to get him, that will put a ton of pressure on him to win right away. Fans will have unrealistic expectations based on his salary.
Fans are going to have unrealistic expectations no matter who we hire.

Mullen is just setting up one more pay boost at his current position. I think it is Golden or Ash and will be announced tomorrow. This is with Golden being the slight favorite to be announced.

I honestly don't think that's true. The Bulldogs aren't happy with him interviewing with Miami, think Cristobal/FIU where the AD got tired of Cristobal trying to leave every year.

Every connection I have in the south (see: all LSU guys) believe Mullen is 99% done at MSU. The AD there is a no-nonsense type of guy and will give Mullen absolutely nothing knowing that he's been interviewing around right now (so they say...).

I'll take everyone's word on it that Mullen will be successful. But the most attractive thing to me about hiring him would be the collective meltdown in the CFB world when they have to report that a top SEC coach left for, as is almost always described, "the dumpster fire that is Rutgers". It would be glorious to read all the board reactions of the usual suspects that constantly look to mock us.

Zero info here. But, if Mullen is interested in the RU job, it would be financially disastrous in the long run not to make a serious bid for him. Rutgers has a 3.78 billion dollar budget. Even if we can borrow the money somehow, the investment would pay off easily.

1. Hire Mullen. Let's say it cost $5 million a year more than the second choice.
2. Fan enthusiasm goes crazy.
3. Raise ticket prices by $15 a game.
4. Get better concessions.
5. Point 1 covered.

(I just threw in point 4 from my recollections from 10 years ago. Although I did like the hot dogs.)

That says it all.

Not true. The "pool boy" told the Round Table on Friday, that a new AD had already been hired. And he gave a very accurate description of Hobbs, without mentioning his name. Anyone on The Round Table knows what I'm talking about, as the thread was legendary.

I agree with Scarlet $ - a very cryptic post appeared on the round table with A LOT of detail pertaining to the firings and the new AD...thread was epic!

Has this individual added anything meaningful about the head coaching search?

To clarify, I have significant contact with FB and all athletics at PSU, but not in my role with PSU. My contacts are with them in another professional capacity. My source was clear in saying he does not know first hand, but what he had heard. I'm not making much of it. I also think Mullen wants out of that cow pasture, but RU may not be IT for him.

So you heard a rumor and posted it as a fact , now saying it might not be true.
Got it [roll]

Yes. I read it. But even then, it was barely out there. Certainly not to the point that random dudes at other schools are hearing about it but somehow the press isnt.
