Chambers gets his hair cut at same barber shop as me. Have not seen him since SP was hired. Asked him his impressions. First, he said Steve is a great person. Second, he is relentless in recruiting. Third, organized and knows how to teach and coach. Fourth, the staff so far is GREAT, an incredible improvement. Fifth, Hobbs will deliver DC, Baltimore metro area. Has great ties there. Sixth, IF Knight signs on, he said the staff would be a powerhouse and will absolutely recruit and get players. Said Knight is very well positioned in NJ and has great ties across the state. Seventh, facilities breaking ground is huge for Rutgers. Eighth, Rutgers will no longer be a bottom feeder with this staff.

Heard from a co-worker that is a Temple guy Penn St bball could be in some trouble. Supposedly payouts for a few of the Philly recruits they've gotten in the last couple of years.

Chambers is a good HC. If PSU gives him time, which I think they will, I believe he will do a solid job there.

Nice to hear those comments from him about Coach Pikiell.

Even though I obviously loathe that school's fans and their football program, I have to admit Chambers comes across as a likable guy. I almost feel bad for the basketball players because they're at least somewhat competitive and their arena is a total morgue every time I see it on TV. They're basically ignored by the cult there.

...and the wrestling arena is packed for every match.

Another reason why you dont want a generic multi purpose arena!!

It's the product on the floor not the seats they're sitting in.

Granted it's not the greatest place to watch but neither is the team using it.

This is not too shabby of a multi-use facility...

OK all that sounds great, but did you get a good hair cut? [laughing]

Like from the movie the Rock when Connerly gets away the guy wants to know if he had a good haircut.

Meh. Pro Arena. Like Trenton or Nebraska. Give me Bulter, Phog Allen, Cameron Indoor, Palestra, etc.

Change the team name to University of North Carolina at State College, and everything will be fine.

To what extent do you know Chambers? Seems like a lot that he acknowledged to you. Wonderful to hear, assuming he said it.

The haircut for Chambers must take about 30 seconds. He has almost no hair at all. Nice to hear his thoughts though.

Best of Luck,
Groz

nice to hear but I would expect a fellow coach to say something positive

Chambers has done okay at PSU for their standards and somehow delivered this class made up of Philly players that has it ranked 2nd in the Big 10. Its now or never time for him in the next 3 years to make the move upward from the bottom 6 in the league

The OP is a professor at Penn St.

I don't doubt he said it but what are the odds he'd say something negative about a fellow coach?
I see now the connection. While I wouldn't expect Chambers to talk negatively in this instance (particularly if he knows the OP is an RU fan), it's nice to hear how "over the top" complimentary he was of our coach.

- you are right - there would be little likelihood of hearing a bunch of negative comments from a fellow B1G coach - about a guy who was just hired.
.... but he could have simply made a short complementary remark & then moved on
- - - it is impressive that he would elaborate on so many key points ... and be so positive

He said he likes Eddie, but did not answer my question about his recruiting. It was clear that he did not see him on the trail.
