I've been thinking about this night and day and for the life of me I cannot understand how STUPID this state is, from the Governor, the state senators, the RU President, the BOG, the NJ press, the donors and we the fans.

We've been given an unbelievable opportunity to SHOWCASE NJ and RUTGERS TO THE REST OF THE COUNTRY but we need all parties to get together, get on the same page and lift NJ and RUTGERS to a position of strength. We need everyone to realize that successful athletics can only help enhance an already strong academic institution

Here's what needs to happen someone needs to organize a sit down preferably the Governor (shame Christie does not support NJ) get all parties together and sit down and air out grievances aND offer solutions on how to better present NJ & RU. They all need to realize that TOGETHER UNITED they can really make NJ and RUTGERS a really special place to be and that everyone will benefit in doing so. This isn't just an opportunity for Rutgers to shine this is an opportunity for NJ to take a GIANT STEP forward

We need everyone to work together. The government

, the Pres, the BOG, the professors, the academics side, the athletic side the press and NJ fans/residents and just really seize on the opportunity that been presented to all help NJ shine

It's about money. Who will pay for the facilities and coaches to showcase Rutgers as you said.

We're talking tens of millions to build facilities.

Most in the state govt and at the school would want Rutgers athletics to do well they just don't want to pay for it.

Superfan your not getting it this has NOTHING to do about money this has EVERYTHING to do about perception and how if everyone got on the same page and help positively portray NJ & RU....the money will come

Just because a husband and wife WANT to be on the same page because of, let's say something valuable like the kids, that doesn't always translate to reality, especially if there's a high amount of dysfunction present.

We need a leader with passion and persistence to make it happen and put the parties together.
Someone who will not stop until he is heard.
Someone who knows the value of competing in the big 10 in both athletics and academics. Someone who realizes that Rutgers along with donations can get this going. It cannot be done just on the backs of fans and benefactors.

We need a new leader. Barchi is not that person however we do need him to finish what he's been hired to do. Based on his speeches though he seems to understand financial management.

In the absence of a visionary in the office of president, we need a strong visionary AD who can convince Barchi in terms of financial ramifications of decisions and one who can propose creative financing options. Doesn't look like JH is that person either. Until we have a good tandem team up top, I'm not too optimistic.

The problem is most of the politicians really just want to get reelected and most of the administrators just want to keep their jobs till they can retire. Not sure how many of that bunch really care enough about New Jersey or Rutgers to actually go and do that much.

Honestly man, the only thing that could guarantee FB success would be a manipulative Machiavellian president who secretly only cares about his manic obsession with Rutgers football dominance, and is capable of using whoever he needs to as a pawn for the sake of his ultimate goal.

Because realistically we will never... EVER be united. NJ simply has too many variables and too many people to please for such a small area. It's kill or be killed.. When it comes to politics, NJ is a cesspool filled with radioactive sharks. The key is to get as many big fish on our side as possible, whether they know theyre helping us or not

Most politicians are there to try and find clever ways to legally steal money.

^^^THIS^^^

Just recently when Rutgers was building the south endzone expansion you saw this in spades. The politicians saw a 100 Million dollars being spent by Rutgers without having it go through their hands. They did not get to pick the contractors and they went after everyone at Rutgers. They sent their lapdog Zoffinger as the spearhead because he was a political appointee to the Rutgers BoG. And since then they have tried many ways to wrest control of the portion of Rutgers budget that the non-politically controlled Board of Trustees handles.

Only in New Jersey.

This is why we cannot have nice things.

As far as the main point of the OP, we need everyone to start asking the critics why the people of New jersey and New Jersey's State U cannot have the same top tier athletic programs as many other states have, some of which have multiple of, despite being far smaller states in population.

Why don't the people of New Jersey DESERVE to have a well supported State U with top tier athletic programs like North Carolina, Michigan, Virginia and Washington (the 4 states closest to us in population). And each of tose states have MULTIPLE schools competing at the top level.

Their answer will probably be something that essentially translates to.. give us control of the budget and you will (which will be a lie).

NJ is an odd place with tons of government layers and varied factions with different interests. It would be a massive challenge to get all of those people pointing in the same same direction.

But yea, it is the obvious thing to do for the state.

Did you guys see the brand new hockey arena that was built next to Beaver Stadium? It's an $81 million dollar building and ONE donor donated ALL the money to fun the project, PSU billionaire graduate Terrence Pegula who is also owner of the Buffalo Bills. Do you know why he donated the money? Because PSU has always been big on sports and while Pegula was a student, he was a sports fan and he wants to see his alma mater succeed.

Rutgers has only decided to turn to big time D1 sports recently. We pretty much don't have rich alumni young enough to warrant such large donations. Most multi-millionaires and billionaires are old. When they were students at RU, sports were hardly as popular. This is why Bernie Marcus or David Stern don't donate to Rutgers, because they didn't care about RU sports when they were students so why would they now?

In the future, we will have very wealthy alumni who are also Rutgers sports fans who will donate, but it is going to take years.

Also unlike other states, a huge portion of our population, or their parents, originate from a different country, or worse, New York.

These people don't love nj the same way that Nebraskans live Nebraska.

JH has failed miserably is that regard. One would have thought that she would have covered all bases prior to accepting the job as AD. Not getting an assurance that RU would pay competitive coaches salaries in the B1G for instance, has destined her legacy to be a failure in only her 3rd year.

Seems to me NJ and RU are in this together if one looks bad the other will look bad as well. It just seems the stated parties could get together communicate with each other and brainstorm how to make both prosper together. There is a reason why everyone across the country hates NJ. This is more than just an RU perception that needs to be fixed

A more cost effective way would just to be to run ads and put up billboards.

And it also likely will lead to an increase in negative off fields incidents like the ones that have embroiled Flood (winning and cheating go hand in hand).

But the good thing about your idea is that someone else would be paying to make the team you support better. Nifty.

Thank you...if this happens, the sky's the limit. Culture can change, perception can change, and mentalities can change - we just need the right person to come in and make the change. Too many Rutgers fans think this is pie in the sky dreams, but this is all possible.
