Q&A with Jerry Carino - On the Banks

Good article. Love that he sees the upside in Eugene and his perspective on Corey.

I didnt like the gratuitous pot shot at ash. Unnecessary if you ask me.

But overall a good read.

Thanks

I agree, didn't like the pot shot either...was wondering how you adjust to slow and fat ...

Surprised no mention of Souf Juco PG as he indicated need for better ball handling this year....Souf will be key for improvement in PG play.

I like reporters that give opinions positive and negative about the teams that they cover.Carino fits that image and has been a speaker at Court Club meetings.

What was dumb about Carino's shot at Ash is that basketball and football are very different games. If I've got a great shooting guard, I'm thinking about how to get him as many shots as possible, and how to play off of the fact that teams will be gunning for him. It's a five man game. Football, on the other hand is a 22 man game most of the time, and that doesn't include special teams. You can't be changing everything around constantly; you can do it some, but not like you can in basketball..

I think there are some things Ash could maybe be doing better, but he was a first year HC, whereas Pikiell has years of experience running the whole show (and got to spend much more freely for assistants). Patience.

Good to hear that Omoruyi is impressing in workouts and that Carino believes he can become a quality Big 10 player. I'm high on this kid. No knock on Thiam but it weight is still an issue like Carino stated, then I think it's gonna be very tough for him to excel in conference play. He has to get stronger

And that Sanders needs to be pushed. Going against a bigger stronger defender in practice is going to make Corey better.

The shot at Ash is something we did here all last year. Shots at the offensive coordinator are, in fact, shots at the head coach. It's a fair point, and can apply to ANY sport.

Besides, that problem likely has been fixed, it just doesn't erase the past.

IF the shot was Jerry's and not the blogger's, of course. The red print makes it a bit hard to tell if it was in the text or just an ad lib.

Wasn't me. I just linked an article about what Ash had been doing the Monday earlier--that's why the text is red. If it was me I would have put "Editor's Note".
