Currently there are 13 remaining jobs in college football open. These are my top six:
1) Georgia
2) USCe
3) Miami
4) Rutgers & Maryland
6) Missouri

LOL...hate to break it to you but Mizzou >> both RU and certainly MD...a decided basketball school!

Honestly i don't know if i would put USCe at #2. they weren't relevent until spurier went there.
1)Miami
2)Georgia
3)Rutger/Maryland
4)USCe
5)Mizzou

Once Mullen takes a job Miss St opens up.
That's not a great job either. Mullen made that job more attractive. I no way is rutgers a "great" job but the upside to rutgers is a lot bigger than miss st.

Syracuse and Illinois are the other power 5 openings right?

Why Mississippi State has been successful lately is because of JUCO's. I'm not sure Mullen would be successful with that strategy at other schools.

The perception is that Maryland is a better job than Rutgers. I tend to agree in terms of the money aspect and they're more dedicated to building facilities. In terms of fan support and atmosphere Rutgers is stronger. I would put Rutgers even with Illinois and above the Syracuse job and below all the other openings.

1) Georgia
2) Miami
3) South Carolina
4) Mizzou
5) Maryland
6) Rutgers/Illinois/Virginia
9) Syracuse

Because many of the schools get bigger conference shares than Rutgers I am putting them ahead of us. Also, since Syracuse is private without the political bs that Rutgers deals with in the press each day, some coaches may prefer that atmosphere.

What objective criteria are people using to determine their rankings? I ask for two reasons. The first is simple curiosity. The second reason is because I would think that different coaches would have different priorities in choosing their next job which makes any static list of rankings at least partially invalid depending on the coach in question.

I agree with this ranking to an extent. I would switch South Carolina and Missouri because Missouri has been more patient in the past. They have had only 7 head coaches since 1958 with Woody Widenhofer (1985 -- 1988) being the head coach less than 5 years (12-31-1). South Carolina is in a better recruiting area, which might be the reason they are less patient with their coaches. Only Steve Spurrier (2005-2015) and Rex Enright (1946 -- 1955) coached 10 consecutive seasons at South Carolina, which brings the job down a notch in my opinion.

Georgia and Miami are fairly high profile positions that reside in areas with great high school football (South Florida is obvious and Georgia high school ball has been ranked 3rd or 4th for the past decade). Good coaches at either school should be able to get enough talent to be highly competitive (take THAT Golden supporters) and are a level above the rest of the pack. Add in that Miami plays in the weakest P5 conference and a good coach there should make the playoffs enough where I could see the argument they should be #1 over UGA.

Maryland, Rutgers, and Virginia are roughly the same level. Illinois should not be on this list since they signed Bill Cubit to a 2-year extension prior to their final game of the season. As you pointed out, Maryland has shown a determination to upgrade their facilities which is why they are on the top of this level.

A lot of this is personal. Bob Diaco, say, might prefer Rutgers to Illinois as a NJ guy. But a midwest guy might prefer Illinois to RU. We look bad right now but a year ago nobody would have said illinois was better. We're at a proverbial "low point" which hurts our bargaining power some.

Jeez I'd so much rather have the Miami job than the South Carolina job. One, location. Two, a clearer and faster pathway to the conference title. I know SC is the SEC and packs the house, but Columbia vs. Coral Gables? Nah.

South Carolina is a better job than Miami due to fanbase, stadium, and commitment to football. Have you seen the pictures of Sunlife stadium during a UM game? It's ugly. Maryland is essentially Rutgers with Under Armour money. That alone puts them a tier above us.

RU and UMD are really tough jobs to take, strictly bc you are goin to have a hard time winning playing OSU/PSU/UM/MSU every year
