RAPID REACTION - Seton Hall

We clearly have two of the best players in the country, but we are not a very good team. Unfortunately, it looks like Seth Davis was right.

Second game in a row our foul shooting was disgusting.

We can’t find open looks for our best shooter PJ Hayes, and we basically don’t run an offense at all. It’s all ISO.

We don’t play good defense. We let a sub-300 offense get comfortable and run circles around us in the paint. Only reason we didn’t lose by 10 is that SHU doesn’t shoot very well.

Poor SH D on last play. Great downtown open shot by Harper to win it. Nice W.
Yeah, think your guy was wary of Dylan going downhill, and he gave Dylan too much space. The jab step helped there too.

we MUST find looks for our other players. 3 from Hayes, 0 from Acuff, 0 from Martini (I don't want to hear about his defense, get him in to make some shots)
That kid should go back to Princeton. He is not a B1G player and will likely get 4-5 minutes a game at most. He was getting schooled when he was in, his guy must have scored like 8 points in 5 minutes.

You think Pike would spend every waking hour thinking of ways to do it and implement it.

Allows us to continue to think that we might make the tourney. We aren't.

Another very strong game by Harper.

Stunning that Ace was 1-8 from the line. Does he need a hand in his face??

We were 1-8 from the foul line in the last 5 minutes.

Watching Pike continue to be incompetent on offense is so frustrating.

He’s better than that. I know that becaue he’s the captain.

The key point is that it’s all ISO ball. Pikiell’s offense after all of these years is OFFENSIVE! How do you not run high and low screens for pure shooters like Hayes? Or for Martini for that matter?

are we the only team that has a sub average defensive player on the floor that can shoot? plenty of teams play guys with defensive deficiencies especially when they can knock shots down from the perimeter.
I’d rather give those extra minutes to Hayes to get a 3pt shooter out there. Hayes is sub average but martini is a turnstile.

I mean ok but gotta find ways to get our shooters shots. Having 3 or 4 3pt threats on the court at the same time is going to open up the offense for everybody. Love our freshman but they can't be the only guys shooting 3s

Ace 1-8 from the line

We tried that though. We’d put up 90 but then give up 95. Only thing I disagree with as far as minutes is that J Mike plays way too many mins. He also should not be playing at the end of halves when we’re shooting free throws. He’s very consistent in being awful from the line.

Hey GreenRiceFig, RUInsanity, Fluoxine, Go RU 7. I accept your humble apologies. Your posts didn’t age well.

Free throw shooting once again a huge issue.
In proper context it’s a major problem.
It almost cost us two games in a row.
It cost us Kennesaw.
Horrible against Wagner.

Pike better have them at the RAC every day shooting foul shots.

Spot on comments.Missed foul shots ,turnovers and allowing Seton Hall to make at least 8 uncontested dunks all contributed to another nail biter game at the RAC.The half court offense is embarrassing to watch because of the lack of player and ball movement to create open shots.Bailey and Harper scored a hard earned 45 points and there was very little scoring from the rest of the team.Williams and Davis had too much time on the court and were non scoring threats for two straight games. I don't know what goes on practice but Seton Hall was more prepared to play this game.Thank goodness their foul shooting was almost as bad as Rutgers.

1. Dylan amazing in 2nd half.
He’s just amazing period.
2. Thought his end of game rebound was almost as big as that shot.
3. Ace was brilliant in the first half and kept us in the game.
4. Derkack forces way too much but gets the gritty rebounds.
5. JWill nice rebounding game.
6. Princeton is going to kill us if we don’t learn to play D on back doors and give and goes.
7. Way too many turnovers. Hate to say it but missing Simpson. He didn’t turn it over like JMike and J Williams. JMike if going to get major minutes has to be better than no points, 1 rebound and 1 assists even if a Pike and crowd favorite.
8. Those posters who refused to acknowledge that free throw shooting is a major problem should be careful when attacking other posters.
9. Christmas Village is a cool idea.
10. The RAC was the RAC today.
11. Have to believe Ace won’t go 1-8 from the line again.
12. Have to find a way to get PJ some shots.
13. We need some drive and dishes if they are going to collapse on Dylan and Ace.
14. Game could have been a disaster and now a miraculous win.
15. Wasn’t Pikes best coaching job but thought he used TV and media time outs well to give Ace and Dylan rests. We did not look winded today.
16. Holloway is a good coach getting a lot out of little talent.
17. Any win over SHU is a good win.
18. Writers suggesting this game lost its juice is just silly. Fans still love it.
19. Think the Rutgers v SHU, PSU is good schtick.
20. Beat Princeton.

If I recall, your point was something like that RU needs to be a Top 50 FT shooting team to make the tourney. I pointed out that at the time that would mean RU would need to have made an extra 2.6 FTs per 100 which would equate to 0.15 points per game. I also pointed out that perhaps half of the teams in the top 50 FT% are probably not tourney teams. Pretty much every team struggles at times in games. RU struggled today and it kept SHU in the game.....but you still have to look at it from a macro perspective as the season continues to progress. Case in point.....Baily was 1-8 in FT today which greatly impacted the overall team %. Sine you appear to only focus on single games as a statement for your stats.... are you projecting that means he will always shoot FTs at a 0.125 clip?

It's a long season, I would wait to see what happens before seeking apologies.

Shaheen allowing Dylan to catch the inbounds pass and bring the ball up court was one of the worse coaching decisions I have seen in a long time.

You have to force someone else to bring the ball up with under 7 seconds to play. Terrible coaching job there.
