Well it was an intimate crowd of 1896 that witnessed out easiest win of the year. It was really Men v. Boys . We shot well from the field, the three point line, and the foul line . We had a season high 18 assists . We had a number of steals and one of our guys would leak out for easy transition layups or dunks. Our defense locked down their guards, and blocked the rest of their shots when they got by the guards. We took away their three point shooting threats as our energy level was high from the get go.

Individually almost everyone played well but Geo was superb tonight hitting mid range shot after mid range shot, hit all his foul shots, but even more impressively when playing the point , kept his dribble alive and penetrated finding our guys cutting to the basket. He had 11 assists to go along with his 19 points and most were spectacular both bounce passes and off of pick and rolls. He will be a tremendous 4 year player for us.

Corey also with 19 and 3 assists including a beautiful alley -oops to Geo and shot much better again like the NJIT game. How all of us would trade the made 2-3 shots tonight and could have used them against Michigan State, but his shot seems to be improved and he hit almost all his floaters and bank shots on drives.

Mike had 17 and got a number of them by being on the receiving end of Geo's assists being on the baseline and getting fouled twice as he reversed banked in the shot. He also got a number of rebounds and appeared as healthy as I have seen him all year.
Another special shout out to Issa. Besides hitting a few threes , he had 9 rebounds and played real good defense . He is starting to use his 6-9 frame and almost got the double double. .

Everybody else contributed and we did not really need Deshawn, Eugene or Duke much as the guards except Souf were dominant.

The failure of Doorson or Sa to really get in the flow and dominant a smaller team was not a good sign for the future Big 10 schedule.

I was a little surprised Pike did not empty the bench earlier as the walk-ons only got 3:45 , up 35, especially due to it being the 5th game in 10 days but that is the only thing I can quibble with. Pike is an outstanding coach that got his team focused against an inferior opponent and buried them early and he made sure the pedal kept to the metal, sharing the ball as well as they have all year, running the offense as efficiently as any game all year.

It appears Pikiell made a concerted effort to have guys leak out on the defensive end to really get transition baskets.

Icing on cake when I saw Duocore take off after a FDU shot and get the cherry pick layup.

Tonight puts the Baker as a PG something I might be able to see. Off-season strength and ball handling are crucial.

There is no difference between FDU and NJIT. Big difference between RU and RU. Those of us that made the trek were really rewarded.

This game did show, though, that Doorson and Doucoure sometimes struggle to defend smaller, faster players. Doorson played 6 minutes and picked up 3 fouls, while Doucoure played 14 minutes and picked up 4. There was no true "big" on the court for FDU. Their biggest starter was 6-7, 245... which is basically Omoruyi, with about 10 more pounds. One sub played 18 min at 6-8, 195... which is essentially Thiam-sized.

The lines for our rotation centers tonight:
Doucoure:
14 min, 9 pts, 3 rb, 0 blk, 2 stl, 1 to, 4 pf
Sa:
14 min, 4 pts, 2 rb, 1 blk, 0 stl, 0 to, 0 pf
Doorson:
6 min, 1 pt, 2 rb, 0 blk, 0 stl, 1 to, 3 pf

In 34 min, 14 pts, 7 rb, 1 blk, 2 stl, 2 to, 7 pf

I am not sure what board I am on. Just read this recap and the game thread and no one is complaining Corey doesn't belong in the NBA! That's usually 40 posts of every thread. Glad everyone took note of the positive vibes...

Was a little surprised at that too... it wasn't so much that he didn't clear the bench until 3:45... it was more so that with about 5 minutes left in the game and up HUUUGE I believe we had four out of five starters still in. So not a Pike-style move, but I respect him and sure he had his reasoning.

I am one who feels he is not an NBA player and last night doesn't change that. He played great last night and we need him to be that good if we are to be successful but I still do not believe he shoots well enough on a consistent basis to play in the NBA. He has been outplayed by the point and scoring guards on opposing teams this year several times. NBA ready players should be dominating games against these weaker opponents on a regular basis, not just a few times. And, against the three quality opponents he was not close to the caliber of the guards we faced those nights. But, that having been said, he was great last night.

Damn it! Lol. The point of the previous text was that it doesn't always have to be brought up. Lol.

How did Luke Nathan do in his minutes? I saw he grabbed a couple of boards. @Shell21 , do you think Nathan could play somewhere else and get minutes?

Baker is the clear leader of this team. Going forward, opponents will try to double team him. You take him out, and the flow of Rutgers is limited by a lot.

Another thread was Sa versus Doorson. It should be more Dadika versus Mensah.

I also think Baker, Sanders, Thiam, Omoyuri, Freeman could be played at times. The game would have a mis match both ways. Freeman on Haas would not be great, but Freeman would be quicker on the offensive side.

Omoyuri seems to step up to big opponents, as does Doucoure.

Another great game for Thiam. The kid has to be so excited with his progress. Once he continues to grow, he will be a huge asset to this team. A bigger one then he is now.

Pikiell has been doing that. It's part of showing that Rutgers does not just win, but they can destroy teams. It helps the image of the program. That i what I think his reasoning is. To show the full turn around of the program.

Goru7- excellent recap with which I agree. I would also add that while Freeman had a quiet game, it was great to see him not force ill advised shots when double teamed and to see him make some great passes after drawing the D. This team is much better when Freeman lets the game come to him taking what the D gives him. Overall, the ball movement by the entire team was excellent last night.

6ft 10" freshmanLuke Nathan had 5 REBs in mopup time.
3rd highest on the team(I am just having fun but its true)
Maybe he gets some minutes next year here and there(prob not)

@higgins . I don’t think Nathan is ready for the physicality at any D1 program this year but I believe I could get some minutes at a lower level team because of his size and skill . I think he would be a decent 4 year player at a low to mid major but with the right coaching and strength and conditioning maybe better . Again , we pushed him around at the high school level a little so I doubt he would be able to bang around all game with players his size .

If Luke works on moving his feet on defense and puts time into S&C, I don't see why he couldn't give us a few minutes per game next year. As they say, you can't teach size.

Definitely. I am curious as to his abilities, and if he would stay at Rutgers for four years. Rutgers strength coach is one of the best in the business. If he continues to excel there, I wonder what happens.

Duocore, Doorson and Myles Johnson. If Nathan sees minutes as the 4th string center someone is hurt, in foul trouble, or myles Johnson was a whiff.
