Any updates?I do not really care to watch it.

I trust Hobbs and Baumbaum will do the job.

Do yourself a favor & spend 30 minutes and watch. Tons of info.

A few things I can think of:

  • Hobbs has set a date to open the Athletic Performance Center (APC) for Basketball, Wrestling, and Gymnastics and also the LAX/Soccer facility of July 18 or 19, 2019
  • $71 million raised ($25 million Tax Credit / $46 million donations), $29 million more needed for this phase
  • RAC locker room has been renovated "15 years out of date" per Sarah B.
  • RAC weight room being revamped, scheduled to be completed in April
  • APC will have Adidas Spirit Store / Coffee Shop
  • Sports medicine / treatment aspects of APC a big selling point
  • Plans to enhance outside concourse between RAC and APC
  • Plans to give front of RAC a facelift and large video board in revamped entrance/concourse area (sounds similar to Pernetti plans); didn't get the sense this is imminent or part of July 2019 target
  • Plans to enhance interior of RAC not specific but architectual firm working on other facilities is engaged in this too
  • Hobbs doesn't have desire to expand seating but does want to move students closer to the court
  • LAX / Soccer Facility will be between existing practice fields in between Athlete's Glen and Yurcak Field not behind goal of Yurcak Field (i.e. not taking up Blue Lot parking spaces) as seen in original renderings; will be convenient for LAX and Soccer programs
  • 30 B1G Fund Captains helped raise $350,000; more Captains are welcome
  • Have 2,000 donors, their target is still 10,000
  • Will be a large video board facing Athlete's Glen in corner of "Marco Battaglia Football Practice Fields"
  • Still working on "The Alley" for students (w/ alcohol), closer to Stadium. May experiment w/ location / setup for Spring Game.
  • Pikiell made an appearance at the end

I like that they want to fix some of the outside of the RAC...needs major upgrade with landscape, concrete....that road in front needs to be grassed and paved over. I am not big on the video board idea...seems like wasted money to me, I mean how many people are near the RAC anyhow that they would be watching a videoboard.

I do not know how they are going to move the students closer...they have taken seats away moving them further...could they force the 118 season ticket holders out and make that a hardcore student section? How on earth can they put students in the 100 levels when the students do not show up, how fair is that for our loyal season ticket holders.

A big video board with a nice concourse or lawn would be a great addition for the Livingston campus and a gathering place. Like the little Yard on College Ave on steroids. That campus used to be the dregs but it's got a pretty good rep with students now and that could add a bit of a wow factor.

I'd be very skeptical about any plans to give students space in the premium seating locations (i.e. sidelines). Not a luxury RU can afford playing in such a tiny and antiquated facility. I don't think all of those seats are currently sold to season ticket holders today but potentially they are the areas that could produce the most revenue in tickets and donation requirements. Yes, I could see them displacing the 118ers and relocating them to the sidelines and giving them a break on seat donations. There aren't many seats left in that section now anyway and a decent amount of them you probably now have to strain your neck to see around the stanchion.

Students should not have closer seating versus season ticket holders. The ultimate answer is putting a winning team on the court which would then hopefully sell out a 8000 seat arena and then cause a additional 2000-3000 seats to be constructed .At that time decisions can be made regarding seating for students ,high end donors ,season ticket holders, etc.I don't expect any movement on further RAC upgrades interior/exterior until 2021 at the earliest when full B1G funding occurs.Once again this is all dependent on winning.

Every big time college basketball venue has the students close to the court.

Not circling the entire court, but there has to be at least 1 section near the court.

not really true....most student sections are still behind the basket....schools that have students in the cushy seats are programs at elite levels which we are not and not going to be.

A video board would be nice to let the students know the date of games, and do some marketing.

I am on college ave a day a week. The video board is nice, but has kind of lost its flair. I think the only marketing you need is winning and a competitive atmosphere.

I don't know if a video board should be sprung for when looking at everything else.

For once in this generation should we have another screen we need to look at.It's already a menace trying to walk on college ave with everyone looking at their phones. Not to mention, plenty of forty-fifty year olds at Costco running into me doing the same thing! Hahaha.

That's fine.

Behind the baskets are still near the court (I guess I meant anywhere in the lower level).

Just need to get those 2 sections CLOSER to the court!

I just do think that there is much foot traffic near the RAC....the stores and apartments are over to the left...why would they need to look at a video board in front of the RAC, just adds extra noise and to me a big video board is more unsightly than neccessary

I agree with that but not sure that is coming back, they must have taken out probably 8 rows on the main student sections...times that by 3 and its a good number of seats...24 rows gone..then add in the rows they took out in 118. Has to be 500 seats gone right?

I believe the intent is to create a venue for the campus to watch events - for example an away football game. While I am sure they would love non-students to attend and that will be encouraged I am pretty sure that the focus of this crowd will be the folks already on campus. Similar to the Yard.

Thanks for posting this. I watched the entire video. Some people here have mentioned that we're NOT gong to enlarge the RAC. I didn't hear that. I heard that we're first going to move the seats closer to the court and add a nice concourse around the building for food and concessions. I also heard from the lead architect that with the changes in the first phase of the RAC will be "flexibility added." That to me definitely signals the ability to add seats when warranted down the road. And that's how it should be. But the first important phase should be to make the RAC up-to-date and appealing aesthetically both inside and out and that's what the plan will first do.

Again, if some of you haven't given to the R Build fund I urge you to do it. For the very first time, this is real and it's going to happen. We finally have the right people in place to marry sports and academics on a first class level. Please give.

Let's see what the architect has in mind. What I liked hearing from him is the look to the future. And I'm not talking about the cosmetics on the outside or the new concourse being being around the inside. I'm talking about his comments regarding "flexibility." That to me means designing and executing a plan to first make the RAC attractive and enjoyable for fans.

And as our team starts to enjoy success and we start selling out the 8,000 seats on a regular basis, the "flexibility" to expand the RAC seating-wise we be in place. Now what that expansion will entail is anybody's guess including Hobbs. It could be another 2,000 seats or another 4,000 seats. But obviously that needs to happen later when the success of the teams dictates that.

retrofit an exterior self-supporting cantilever roof over the RAC and you can remove the interior columns in there and do wrap-around seating and even go higher with the seating.
