Resolution of Assault Case Against Former RU Football Players

I've known Nadir since little league baseball. Did he make some bad choices? yes; but he is not a thug like the SL made him out to be. In my view, the way the SL and others grouped all the kids and incidents together was completely inaccurate and inappropriate. I've always found Nadir to be extremely respectful and a good kid, which makes the whole series of events so unfortunate. As far as grades, in my opinion Piscataway does not do a great job of preparing students for college unless you take all honors and AP classes. By way of background, I went to Piscataway as did both my kids, who are now at Rutgers. My daughter, who is straight A's and in the honors program at Rutgers, took the same theater appreciation class and explained to me that students had to arrange transportation to see the plays that were in NYC, Princeton, and some in NB. I'm not saying that is hard but I do see how a student athlete could find themselves trying to juggle the logistics and schedule. That's not intended as an excuse, more of an explaination or comment. I wish nothing but the best for Nadir and personally would love to see him back at RU if the coaches made that decision. I'll root for him wherever he goes.
It was reported that it was dance appreciation that he failed and the performances they are required to attend are on campus or at the State Theater.

It was my understanding that it was theater appreciation, if not, I stand corrected on the name of the class and acknowledge that the difficulty in juggling schedules would be less onerous. Irrespective, I appreciate the challenges of student athletes and their adjustment to what is a more rigorous and demanding regime.

Oh. My bad.I thought this was about his younger brother Elijah who will be a juniorRB/CB at P_Way next year and prolly a top 5 player, if not #1, in Jersey.

Pass on Barnwell.

Trouble getting to a play. He could have walked home and borrowed the car from mom and dad.

Get in a fight. Surprise that happened when you choose to hang out with Peele who couldn't stay out of trouble and some guys that were regularly robbing houses. Bet my house Barnwell knew about that deal. Kids gotta be cool and brag.

Leave your coach out to dry. He went out on a limb and Barnwell couldn't live up to the most basic commitments.

Kid doesn't deserve anymore chances.

The person that got off easy was Coach Flood. Apparently being stupid is not a crime.

Being stupid is clearly not a crime. Whether Flod was stupidly trying to help the kid out or selfishly trying to keep him eligible (or both) we will never know but what Flood did does not come close to what has gone on in a lot of other places (Baylor ie) so I believe that his sins were not so great that had we hung on at Wash St and Maryland, and come back to beat Mich St we would have been 7 - 5, bowl eligible and Flood just might still be here. So, whether being stupid is a crime or not, his being stupid got us a new coaching staff and a whole new beginning, so, I'll take that in a heart beat.

Flood's walk of atonement though the streets of New Brunswick is scheduled for this Saturday.

Many members of this board are planning to be there:

Yep, I'm definitely in this camp.

The whole situation sucks for these guys. It's even worse when you think about how things might have been better with better leadership (coach). They didn't fear Flood

Somewhat agree, but at the end of the day, it is about choices they made in who they hung out with and where they went. If it was me, and I was with the group that surrounded the kid that Stephenson punched, I would have said something to stop it, or I would have said to the other guys, that I was out of there because this could result in bad consequences. The head football coach is not a 24 hour a day babysitter for grown men. At a certain point in life, they have to take responsibility for their own lives, and not blame others like their coach or someone else for not being led properly.

This. We're not talking about dogging it in practice and workouts, where fear of a coach is relevant. We're talking about criminal activity. Fear of a coach shouldn't be part of the equation.
