I was just checking the scores on scarletknights.com and saw that the field hockey team defeated Ball State 4-1. After the win over Maine, I would expect them to move up a bit in the rankings. Looking at their schedule, they're playing 11 teams that are currently ranked, counting Maine. Of those, 6 are in the B1G. It's really a man-eating schedule. RU could finish ranked in the Top 20 but still be just #7 in the B1G.

I also looked at the results for volleyball and was disappointed to see that RU went 0-3 out in Colorado. Has RU hired a new coach for this sport? IIRC, RU has still never won one conference match since joining the B1G. With so much progress in other Olympic sports, why hasn't Rutgers decided to make a move in volleyball?

I know nothing about high school volleyball recruiting, but what kid is willing to train and play at the College Avenue Gym? If I was a real good player, I would think the coach was just joking and we were going to get back in the car and go see the real practice center and arena. Why were they originally included in the RWJ Barnabas Center and then not? Why are they not playing at The RAC? Maybe there are future plans, but I have not heard anything.

I guess it will have to begin with a new coach. After 5 years in the B1G, I thought that would have been addressed by now.

Heard rumors that Werneke is history after the season. Let's see what Hobbs does about hiring a real coach for volleyball. If that fails, then fold the program.

Fold the program? Then you have a choice: 1) Fold a men's program of equal scholarships, or 2) replace Volleyball with a different womens program of equal scholarship. That's Title IX for you.

Women’s wrestling would be a great replacement.

Once they outgrow the Barn then and only then will they move to the RAC. Wrestling crowds out grew the Barn. They started moving bigger matches to the RAC, then the full schedule. Same with Gymnastics. They were selling out the Barn and now meets are held at the RAC.

I would love to see Rutgers fold women’s volleyball and add women’s wrestling in its place. If not winning a conference game for 5 years isn’t enough to shut a sport down, I do t know what is.
