Doug - I would hope that most here would be happy, and we most definitely CAN hire a proper staff, for about $5-$5.5M/year, total, which is the # that's been "rumored about" since late 2013.
I spoke with someone about a week ago and I said to him that it would take something in the range of $6 million to be competitive. I didn't realize I was close.[thumb2] If Rutgers is smart maybe they can backload contract so by the time it increases the money from the B1G should help to cover it. It's a risk, but trying times call for questionable acts.

The current salary (based on 2014) for the Rutgers staff is ranked 38th nationally and 8th overall in the B1G. Rutgers didn't have a problem paying the assistants, but the problem was with the leader. The leader of the program is the difference in recruiting, organization in running the program, image, getting the staff to perform well together, etc. The HC has to be a strong type and jack of all trades. So basically Rutgers needs to pay its HC in the range of Hazell, Kill or Andersen (UW 2014) and compensate the OC and DC well too just be in the ballpark for qualified candidates. The position coaches at most FBS schools receiver roughly the same.
