Josue Matias (Union City)
Not one week after Josue Matias committed to Rutgers, he announced Saturday night that he had jumped ship and committed to Florida State after receiving an afternoon visit from FSU assistant coach James Coley. According to a reliable source, Matias committed to Rutgers off emotion and his mother was not a fan of the choice. After a ‘true sitdown,’ they decided that FSU was the place and Matias supposedly likes not having the pressure of having to play right away.
Fou Fonoti (Cerritos C.C.)
Fonoti will sign his letter of intent on Wednesday without the fanfare that a lot of recruits will have surrounding them at their respective signing day ceremonies.
“My school doesn’t do anything like that,” said Fonoti. “I have class from seven to nine in the morning, so I’m going to just do it probably after class and just fax it.”
Daryl Stephenson (Sayreville)
The defensive tackle committed to Rutgers back in June of 2010 and took his official visit to Rutgers back on December 10th. Although some coaches will try and poach verbal commits from other schools, Stephenson hasn’t had to deal with that.
“Not really because my coach doesn’t let them talk to me,” he said. “I can’t wait to sign with Rutgers, start working out and doing my stuff and getting on the playbook.”
Stephenson also acknowledged that is committed to Rutgers 100 percent and hasn’t had any intentions of wavering.
Paul Canevari (Don Bosco)
Late last night, Canevari committed to Rutgers but will come in as a greyshirt. That means he will not enroll at Rutgers until January of 2012 and he has also been recruited as a tailback by the RU staff.
“It felt like home at Rutgers,” Canevari said after his commitment.
Matt Deiana (Blair Academy)
The all-purpose back is seriously considering walking on to Rutgers and offered the latest on his current situation.
“I have been offered by Army, and given preferred walk on spots to UConn, Rutgers, Temple, Marshall, Ohio and Ball State. My interest goes UConn and Rutgers at the top, followed by Temple, Marshall, and Army, and then so on. I am mainly down to UConn and Rutgers and am just waiting until after signing day to decide but as of now, I am leaning towards Rutgers.”
