Wanted to raised this question to see what the forum thinks:

Should RU Athletics Department publically state the amount the University is will to provide to the football program and clearly state that if we (the fans) want someone more expensive we will have to raised the money for it?

For example, right now the budget for all football coaches is about $3.5 million. If we want a top HC with a great staff we will probably need to increase our budget by another $3.5 million or around $7 million (3+ for the HC and the remainder for the staff). Since the university might not be willing to increase the budget our AD could clearly state that we the fans have to come up with this money or else is not happening.

I personally think they should so that is clear how much the University is willing to invest in our program and in turn this might motivate the fans to act and raised the funds for the coach that we want.

What do guys think?

Awesome, and give away our negotiation strategy for every coach Rutgers has reached out to in the past 10 days.

I see you point but is not like our coaches salary info is not public (i can give you a spreadsheet if you want). I am sure they will know how much we paid our current staff and what was the max we paid for the highest paid staff we ever had (probably a Schiano staff). So it is known that it will be something around those numbers for an OK coach and much more (3+ millions) for a top well known coach. Again, most of this information is not top secret, specially for us (public university).

The problem I see with the Rutgers fans is that we don't take responsibility for it what we want. We want the University to pay the bills but they have stated (not so clearly) that they will not pay for a top coach. So instead of getting together as a group (like Penn S****) we just keep on bit**ing that we don't have money for a top coach and staff. It would be great if we actually did something about our problems and I think by the university stating how much they are willing to invest until the BG1 money gets here it will allow RU supporters to determine what they want to do (act and give money or wait for BG1 money).
