Our future RU wrestler, Nic Aguilar, won the Masters(our Regions) for the 4th time and is now on to the California States. He looks like he will be a future contributor to RU wrestling. Kudos to Scott and the coaches for branching out of NJ to recruit the best.

Some great California wrestlers in the past 10 years

Henry Cejudo
Aaron Pico

I am sure there are a lot more.

I would think they are a bit behind NJ, but they are close.

I think Isaiah Martinez is from California.

California is top 5-7 for HS wrestling talent. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Jersey, Illinois, Iowa, CA, NY, OK, the order after PA is debatable. Like Jersey they have a one class state tournament with a much larger population so very difficult. The best programs are along the central coast and in the Central Valley. Best current wrestlers are Isaiah Martinez, Nick Neville. Jesse Delgado was a NCAA champ a few years back. I have watched Aguilar wrestle several times this year. He is special.

Yeah, there are a lot of good wrestlers from out there.

Anthony and Zahid Valencia
Evan Wick
Nevills brothers

If you check out Intermat HS rankings, NJ has many more ranked kids in top 20 and top 5 than Pa, which kinda shocked me

Do you think he will be ready to jump into the line up wrestle at the college level next year?
Aguilar will be the #1 overall seed @120lbs for this weekends California State Championships.

If Suriano stays at 125, which I expect, then I don’t see Agular cracking the lineup. I bet he redshirts. I don’t know if he has the frame and strength to move from 120 to 133 and beat out wrestlers on our current roster. That would be a big jump for a freshman.

If Suriano moves to 133, which I don’t expect, then Aguilar might be able to crack the lineup at 125. That would still be a tall order for him.

Realistically, I think he red-shirts at 125 next year and learns a bunch from battling Suriano in practice.

He probably redshirts. He is moving across the country and adjusting to college life as well. I think he has the frame/height and most definitely the wrestling skills to go right away, even at 133. Curious to know what weight he walks around at after the season. Maybe after a few months in the room and a few open tournaments they pull his redshirt. Kind of like Jason Renteria of Nebraska.

Hey, RU93, Aguilar had a bye, followed by a 29 second pin in the round of 32 today. Just thought you might like to know, in case no one else got around to posting it.

Where are you getting this from?

Aguilar didn't have a bye - he won his first match via pin in 2:47 in the round of 64.
He won his round of 32 match 13-0 and his round of 16 match 9-2.

You can verify this all on FloArena if you like, but I watched all 3 of his matches.

Yep, you're right. I saw the N. Aguilar and didn't even think about there being a brother. Oh, well, at least Nic's results are posted here now.

He is going to be special at RU. I met him and his family on his recruiting visit and they are very nice people.

The California announcers had nice praise for RU during the match. They talked about the wrestling room with Suriano and Ashnault, how RU is a program on the rise and how the matches draw large crowds. They said that RU is a nice place to turn Aguilar into a champion. I understand this is some hyperbole for one of their wrestlers, but it was still nice to hear.

So of the 6 kids coming in next year, one is a state champ in Cali, 2 are in the NJ state finals, 1 is hurt, but won a NJ state championship last year, Glasgow won back to back states and a national championship and then Robinson. Feels like an amazing class. Maybe add a 197 pound transfer and this gets really interesting.

Agreed. And what I like about this class from the ones I have watched, Aguilar, Benner and Janzer, they are attacking offensive wrestlers. Aguilar and Benner are strong on top and always looking for a turn. Janzer is relentless. Some of our current wrestlers are simply not aggressive enough at times. Hopefully, these young men continue to be aggressive in college.

We still a HVWT and the kid from Voorhees sounds pretty good. It was mentioned we are recruiting him.

He is a junior. In a recent article, he said he weighs right around 220 but wants to wrestle Heavy in college. He fits the mold of a tall athletic heavy if he can add 20-30+ lbs of muscle.

Best HWT at Voorhees since Lee Getz. Former NCAA qualifier and three year starter at tackle for RU.

We are recruiting him but so is Navy which had his teammate, Jaden Bernstein
