Lax Vegas Lines Twitter has RU as a -6.5 point favorite on Opening Day vs Lafayette. I think RU lights the lamp early and often on a cold early February day at RU Stadium.

Rutgers 18, Lafayette 8 in front of announced crowd of just under 2K, will be under 1K actually in the stadium.

Well looking at Lafayette a little, they return 9 of 10 starters as well as the FOGO and their LSM. with a new staff and the shot clock, it is difficult to predict how Lafayette will approach this game. Do they try to slow the game down on offense? will they throw some junk defenses against us at the end of the shot clock? They were a deliberate team last year on offense but with Meyers and Bieda there that may change. I feel like Lafayette will have to do all of this just to keep the game close and if we can win faceoffs and they can not slow down our transition game I think we can get to 20. we may give up a few more goals than we expect but that will get taken care of as we play through some personnel things.

Can someone let the faithful know how the FOGO spot is being addressed. This KILLED us last year. I know this position more so than any other is unique in that recruiting for it and skill players for it are hard to come by.

You can only try to make the guy you have better with drills and also bringing in a coach who is a face off specialist. Or you can recruit a better one. They along with goalies are the top money positions on the team as far as budgeted scholarship money. They are at a premium for sure. Jo Jo Nardella is one of the top face off guys in the country and he is a rutgers alum. I believe he is an assistant at Harvard and plays for Atlanta professionally. That’s the guy you need to get on your staff. Face offs are everything

It’s a tough spot to recruit for. Often x, a guy who dominates in high school isn’t nearly as effective in college. It’s a position which is really hard to project. To address this Coach Brecht has a transfer from Towson who is now eligible and a freshman that has been turning heads. I’d expect to see both of them.

the FOGO spot is super hard to figure as it is such a personal thing. Some FOFO will dominate some guys and lose to others. For instance, Trevor Baptiste was considered the best FOGO in the country last year but he struggled against TD Irelan of Albany and Irelan struggled against Connor Mackie of Yale.
As for Us Connor Harryman has looked supper so far this spring and it appears like he will get the first shot. Ott played well in the fall and has looked pretty good and Perlstein has looked better as well. Schoen is a known. If Harryman can remain consistent we will be better at the X

I feel like your right...

Too much talent spread across the field for a number of guys to not go off. As awesome as Jules is, I feel like the offense is going to much more spread out. Teams can't focus on one guy.

Agreed...the fact is good players love playing with other good players...why? Because defenses cant focus on any one guy...as you note, that spreads things out and it becomes tough to stop...

This first month is going to be interesting...lots of pieces to figure out and work in...I'm excited for the team and as a fan...but I am nervous as a dad...admittedly...I'll never lose that feeling and as an ex college athlete...it's much harder watching your kids than it was playing...anyone that has kids understands that...

Any chance there will be warming stations at the game tomorrow?? I am soft, I still shudder thinking about the Brown game two years ago.
If the wind doesn't kick up, I shall survive.

Are there any statistics on cold weather and injury? I feel like tight muscles in this weather can not be good for the kids but who knows maybe that just applies to old folks(myself).

Things to look for would be face offs and goalie play. How AC handles true game speed ( he has not played a real game since 2016), if he looks fluid and playing freely that will be a great sign. Middie scoring, I think we have 7 or 8 middies capable of a pro g goals on offense plus a couple at the ssdm slot. How much the “offensive mods” play defense. I think you will begin to see more two way guys. Who starts on defense besides Bullett and Michaeli, my bet is Stahanczyk with Thompson and Russo after.

Looks like Stahanczyk gets the start today ( his high school announced it on Twitter).

With as much as we had the ball, I would have liked to see us put up at least 20.
