RU Morgan game thread

Disagree. Have to take wide open threes all day. We still rebound the misses and go to the hole just like Deshawn did down the stretch. Cannot turn down uncontested 3's. Have to get better shooting them. Not great just better
Let's agree to disagree. We are not a good 3 pt shooting team so teams will give you looks. We have to play our game. I'm not saying don't shoot 3s but it has to wide open and taken by our better shooter.

Jtung, if you look at the replay, you will see that all 16 shots were wide open with not even a hand in the face. They were taken by Mike, Nigel, Corey, Issa, and Candido. I was there live and that is what I saw and I am pretty sure the replay will reveal the same thing . We have to get back in the gym and shoot, shoot and shoot some more

First time seeing the team in person this season--sloppy game from both teams but like someone above mentioned, a win is a win for this program and I'll take that. I am worried about conference play though--these guys could win a game or two they have no business winning if they had one or two guys (even off the bench) if they could hit from behind the arc somewhat consistently. I'm afraid once B1G play starts, they'll lose an extra game or two we think they should win because of this.

Went to game and left quite disappointed. Corey/Nigel are similar players, very athletic, but both are really shooting terrible from outside and many times are forcing drives to the hoop and taking wild shots. I hope somehow this gets better, otherwise, things can get ugly real quick. I am baffled with Corey in his 1-15 shooting, what has happened since last year? ..and Laurent, last year looked like a future star but now spending so much time on the bench and body language doesn't look good. These were concerns prior to Morgan State that got worse after this game. Thiam, zero points last (2) game, and our best shooter?? Our 3 pt game that was not very good has gotten much worse after last few games.

Getting no production from our starting two and three. I will still take 7-1, but some players really have to step up soon.
I would replace Laurent and Thiam with Williams and SA to get some energy and offense at start of games.

In addition to the poor 3 point shooting there is a ongoing problem with missed layups. It seems like at least 10 missed layups every game which will come back to haunt the team against better competition.

Those layups are going to get blocked more often than not against better teams....the teams next step is to not rush shots to get them up before the shot gets blocked....Some times you may have to stop, pump fake and draw contact and a foul to get to the FT line.....it sounds easy, but it's not my shoulders and arms getting crunched, every time you attempt to pump fake and get hammered by a bigger player.

These are things that more athletic, more talented roster gets....It's only 7 games and I think by Game 14, RU will be better across the board. I don't see a lot of games RU can compete in, with 3-22 from the floor from Sanders and Johnson, but I don't see that as the norm....even 7-22 from the floor, makes a 8-10 point difference per game....that's a large difference in what your numbers look like.

Our last 3 games have been awful on so many levels. I want to see us come out on Tuesday against CCSU and look like we own that team and win by 25+ going away

It had nothing to do with shot selection. We had 16 uncontested 3 pointers and hit 2. We do not have good shooters but have to keep on practicing because you need to continue to take those shots and improve in your success rate. 6 made 3's tonight makes it a over a 20 point win.

thats a big if..fact is they didnt make them and they consistently do not. if Morgan state made 6 more 3s they would have won the game. I just think this team needs to take less 3s at this point and work on all the other things that will give them wins and that starts with good decision making with shot selection which was shaky last night and the last 3 games for that matter

Shot selection is not the problem. When teams play zone, you swing the ball to get a look, you hit the Big at the foul line, he should either hit the jumper which they are not taking , or dish to the wings for open shots or hit the other big on the baseline or a wing slashing to the hoop. As a Division 1 player and as a coach , I want that shot almost every time if they are wide open. They have to get in the gym and shoot 100, then 200, then 300. I do not know what has happened to Corey, he is not coming close and that is baffling and has to be corrected. Once he becomes a threat again, he will blow by people who are guarding him closely. Nigel and Mike and Issa have good form and more should be connecting. Even our stretch 4, Sa, has good form and should take an open 3. As good as our defense has been this year, you cannot win in today's college basketball without hitting three's. Even UNC realizes they are necessary to win.

I agree with you they were open looks. My earlier post said we had better looks this game. But it needs to be Williams and Thiam only.
