Geesh! With this again. Wouldn't you think that if GG was so good she would be working somewhere in college again after leaving Texas in 2012. I believe in Pat Hobbs, how about you?we should have hired Gail G two years ago

I seem to recall that she wanted a break. She has been a WNBA assistant the last couple of years. I would say a .750 winning percentage at Duke and Texas is pretty good. I'm glad the team finally pulled one out but it does seem like a change is in order and I for one would want GG to be considered if a change does happen.
She's only 53, but if she decided to go back to college could Hobbs reel her in. question. Not me too old.

With new facilities coming , if the price is right ( more than Stringers making now, maybe what she did before) Gail G might consider becoming RU's HC.
Goestenkors left the WNBA and coaching to pursue interests outside of basketball
and left being a College HC because of burnout, don't know if she would go back to being a HC.
But I'm sure if she didn't make the NCAAs her first year as the RU WBB HCthere would be some calling her an overpaid failure in this board. [winking]
That's why I said she's only 53.53 is not old
As the other noted she is only 53....the only question would be how she would be at recruiting these days but I'm sure with the right assistants she would be OK.
It's a good resume, but CVS and RU were pretty darned good during that same timeframe, and the last time GG took a team past the first round of the NCAA's was in 2008. I don't know how much RU will be willing to pay when CVS does step down, but GG would probably demand at least as much [as CVS].Because CVS is old and past her prime and plays a style that keeps the fans away. The game is not about defense. Gail G by the way had 7 straight seasons of 30 plus wins at Duke. She bolted for Texas but it wasnt a great fit and quite frankly despite all the money they pay out, Texas athletics may not be as great as they think they are.
From wiki....Goestenkors accumulated an impressive record at Duke and is one of the most accomplished women's basketball coaches in the nation. She received recognition as the ACC Coach of the Year a record 7 times (1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007). In the 2001-02 season, Goestenkors led the Blue Devils to the first undefeated regular season in ACC women's basketball history — a feat she would repeat two other times during her tenure at Duke (2003, 2007). During her final ten seasons at Duke, Goestenkors led the Blue Devils to NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearances every year, seven Elite Eight appearances, four Final Fourappearances, and two appearances in the NCAA Championship game. During her tenure, her teams won five ACC tournament championships and eight ACC regular season titles. Goestenkors holds the ACC record for fewest games required to achieve 300 wins (387 games).
I would support GG if she was ever hired by RU, but, as you say, she is probably a bit expensive for what RU is likely to pay. When CVS does leave, I have always hoped that RU will go for an experienced Head Coach from a lower level or a top Assistant from a major team. But who knows what will happen or who will be available when the day comes. It's a good resume, but CVS and RU were pretty darned good during that same timeframe, and the last time GG took a team past the first round of the NCAA's was in 2008.
